I hate selling stuff anymore, in the last month i got offers on a couple amps i was selling and i really wanted to move them but not give them away and i priced them to sell, so i get a bunch of offers and atleast 4xs it was less than i was asking but i wanted to move the product and i said ok lets do it, right after that all of them stopped responding or waited a few days and offered me even less that the first offer, i can deal with haggling but why waste time making offers if you have no intention on buying it once i accept your offer, some people wanna make half hearted offers and then shit their pants once we accept it and then just stop responding, tire kickers at their best.

Now that is total BS. Not cool!

Somebody forgot to take their pii-iilll! That's some heavy frustration for 3:30 am! Gotta say I agree with the gist of it though.

Nah, I took my two Advil PM's and was out. It was something else that woke me (heartburn/stuffy nose, whiny cat, hell I dunno).

I've seen these same rants over and over again since I joined the TGP in 2003. No it's not a perfect forum, but no forum is. And let's face it, if you're selling gear to move, it's much better than most places.

Wait till Brad has 80,000 RT members selling shit, I'll bet he'll impose selling fees to cover the server bandwidth costs then. That's the only reason the TGP did it. I know because I used to donate speakers for raffles to raise money to pay the server costs for members who were too cheap to donate. Even now, only 3% of the TGP donate money who are not active sellers.

And it used to be less.

You posted HCAF style over there, you might as well have put a target on your forehead.

It's already happening on a smaller scale, some people are being drawn to this site just for the classifieds.

Scott Peterson has the strangest rules of any forum i've been on.

You would be too if you shared the name of a double murderer

That's per usual over there. I love to read the snobbery that oozes in the classifieds.

This place isn't all that different really. Just a different type of snobbery with the different gear that people freak over here.

The internet sales depot has become more scandelous and sketchy.

I'm one of the guys who pays 12 bucks a year to list stuff on tgp and is done with it. Rarely do I make other postings there. If I post and try to ask about anything other than a dumble or a two rock, it seems I get very limited responses. They don't even like my Charvel's because they have locking trems, (WTF??)

I really don't mind their classifieds too much. I've made some very good deals on tgp and like scumback said, the $12 a year is sooo much less than what ebay/ paypal charge for stuff ($89 on a wolfgang I just sold). My only gripe is how fast my listing gets bumped down and down and down. There are just so many users.

They want to law ball me on a pedal but it's funny when you see the same guy in another thread taking about buying a 3k LP. Freakin A-Holes.

You ever work in a music store  I have been in music retail for about a decade, eventually you get used to it, good luck on the pedals!!

I paid whatever the lower amount is on TGP to sell or trade things. My very first post over there did put me in the penalty box, and it was complete BS, but I still use TGP to get info.

Over the past few months over there I traded an LP for another LP that was worth more than mine, got a good deal on some Scumbacks, and sold an ET65 for way more than it was worth. I didn't screw anybody either. They wanted what I had and made offers to get it. I am probably about $400 ahead and have some things that I wanted in place of some things that I didn't.

 Ive started trading things into stores like GC just to get rid of stuff with no hassle. Sure, it is a huge financial hit, but is it worth trying to list your stuff for 6-12-18 months just to try to get the extra 20% on top?

Not to mention shipping is getting ridiculous and everyone expects it for free, people think that if the tubes aren't new they are entitled to get the amp $200 cheaper, etc... screw it, take the 70% and drive it 10 minutes, and be done with it ;)

The last 4 items I've sold have been on TGP. I've listed the same items here and at HCAF with hardly a bite. All transactions went smoothly. Doesn't seem to be interest or money on the other forums.

Haggling is fine and lowballing doesnt insult me, but when im asking 1400 for a amp and somebody says will u take 1200 for it and once i say ok i will do it just to get it sold, then that person will disappear, and then a week later come back and ask will i take 1k after already making the offer the week before, thats the shit that drives me nuts.

Or the other 4 times that i got offers asking will you take 2200 for the amp your selling for 2500 and once i accept their offer they either disappear and stop responding or they tell me they are waiting to get paid for what they are selling first and then they still dont folllow thru with the deal.

Am i the only person who deals with this shit, i wont ask somebody to sell me something for lower than they are asking unless i am prepared to buy it, dont make offers if you are only thinking about buying it.

TGP is absolutely no different that any other social network, organic or electronic, in the history of the human race. Most members are cool and some are not. No different that here or any other site/group/organization.

An unfortunate result of gear forums driving broke/deadbeat guitar players attempting to get in on the gear/flipping action.

I like TGP, it's not all about metal.

same here..There are some cool forumites there as well.

There classified rules my be a bit lame..but they usually have the best stuff for sale over there...fun to browse..

In this economy selling anything for more than a few hundred dollars is going to be tough unless it's highly sought after.

I have stuff sitting in my basement I haven't touched in years that I wont bother trying to sell for this reason...

I completely agree. I just had that happen with a guitar I was selling (not on TGP). Buyer haggled and we came to a price and a payment agreement...1/2 down and the other half in a week when he got paid. No payment was sent. Got an email the next day trying to get the guitar for substantially less than we agreed upon...I highly doubt that he will ever contact me again :D
Why haggle if you're not ready to pull the trigger? Its a waste of everybody's time.
