About fed up with TGP classifieds.

It wouldnt bother me as much if it happened once or twice per item im selling because i expect deadbeats but when it happens 4 times on each item it makes me mad.

Don't get me started on haggling. I had a KLON for sale 14 months ago, right when they were discontinued. I never used it, just wasn't my tone. I had traded two Scumnicos for it, so I had $550 into it, which I knew was less than what they were going for at the time. Even said so in my ad, here's "the price", $550 plus shipping/paypal fees.

Five people want it. No problem, whoever pays first gets it.

Then the low balling starts..."Would you take $525 shipped?" No. Then they come up $5 to $530.

I'm sure many are still butt hurt over my replies... ;)

I just played all five buyers against each other. "Sorry, this other guy has outbid you....".

Finally sold it for $573.50.

It's not fees that bother me, or the rules over there, or TGP, it's the flakes who post there . It's when I'm playing the PM game with some guys over there who come in saying they want something from me, they ask me 12 questions, then when i tell them it will cost $70 bucks to ship an 80lb combo amp across the country they get their panties in a wad. WTF! I don't overcharge for shipping and i don't pocket any of it.

Iv'e sold a lot over there but i guess the economy is really bringing out the tire kickers.

I cant believe they bid against each other. If you had it listed for $550 and I said I would take it, I would expect the price to be $550. If you then told me that another guy PMed you and we were now supposed to bid against each other I would likely tell you to get fucked. But I wouldn't have tried to bargain you down on something that was already below market value ;)

They pay $1000 for a Klon, that any idiot can build for $30 in parts.
And Tag buys a Dumble for $45K that you can get the same exact tone from a Fuchs for $2K.
And these complete douche pickles will nickel and dime you on a pedal.... :gethim: :gethim: :gethim:
Plus, you have to pay these ass burgers to list things in the classifieds.
That place is about as useful as a bull with tits.....

Please AA, get real. Every forum has it's mental midgets, none more filled than TGP because they have 70,000 plus members (Correction...Members: 73,696). By contrast, RT has 8422 members. Because there are so many members there just to sell without contributing, they charge you $5 per month, or $12 per year to sell. For f**k's sake, that's $1 per month. Raise the price of your item you're selling to cover it, and be done with it, and stop bitching. Sheesh.

Getting bant from TGP is the best thing that has happened to me on the web. Scott Peterson has the strangest rules of any forum i've been on.

As for getting banned (not bant) at TGP, they have the most even handed moderation of any forum I've seen. I've received infractions for insulting members and calling them out for posting utter BS (which they deserved IMO, but I got an infraction none the less). Not sure what your "time out" was for, but in almost every case, the member who got an infraction or banned asked for it somehow. I speak from experience, so I know this to be true. My guess is the TGP rules were violated somehow by you, and you felt you had good reason to. Doesn't change the fact that you broke them (as I did), and we both paid the piper for our actions.

Or am I reading that wrong?

I dig RT, but listening to members both belittle and praise TGP over issues they could have anywhere seems petty. Just follow the rules and shut the fuck up, already. You don't get unlimited freedom of speech. You're not protected by the 1st Amendment, and you can be held accountable for what you say, just like real life. Treat it that way and move on. Life is too short. With the influx of HC people all over the net, rules have been enforced that they weren't as strict on before. According to what I hear, there's been an HC "attitude" that's permeated many forums, kind of like gunslingers in the Old West. Wild shootouts/discussions, whatever, but many forums (not just RT and TGP) have cracked down on behavior that smacks of entitlement. Hell, there's an HC Shanty Town here, right?

Regarding the TGP classified ads. Jeez, $5 for a month, $12 per year for a prime targeted buying audience and you guys want to bitch about that? Grow a pair, and spray some liquid hair on them if you're lacking, would ya? What a pitiful whine that is. Paid selling rights came about because people used the TGP just for sales, not to contribute, which burned up server fees to those who supported TGP. So that's why they introduced seller fees. It seems they had some members here tagged pretty well, judging by the posts in this thread. Pony up your $12 and shut the fuck up, or sell without TGP "mental midgets who overpay" already. For Christ's sake.

When's the last time any of you ran an eBay auction? Sheesh, I sell 3-4 pairs of metal handles there per month, and I wind up paying about $12-20 each month in fees for around $130-250 worth of sales. That's almost 10% alone. You can sell on TGP for a whole year for less.

Guess what? The internet, gear sales, and selling costs are not FREE! There is no free lunch, free pussy, dick enlargement drugs, gratuitous blow job or sports cars with Kim Kardashian in it just cause you want it to be, just like real life. Grow up, man up, pay up and shut up already...or adjust your thong accordingly.

  Excellent post.

I am with Les Zombie, I really just hate selling at this point. I would rather eat nails than pack one more amp. I posted that DL-4 and within minutes I am getting low balled and had one guy ask if it was still around and never to be heard from again.

I do need to blast some stuff out though, hopeful the last time for some time.

TGP rules are just fine, if you get banned there your probably better off at hcaf or UG.

I just think selling stuff right now sucks whether its ebay, here, TGP, etc. Its just a pain. One of the big reasons I am not buying much right now, is that its such a pain to sell stuff.

I also don't mind paying to be able to sell. I donated before that was put in place at TGP, so for me it was no big deal. I would donate here to use the classifieds too. Talkbass.com has the same rules on classifieds as TGP. The one rule that really got me was on the proaudio sound for sale forum, only 1 bump allowed per WEEK. They slapped me pretty hard for violating that one, nothing ever sold over there anyway for me.

Haggling is cool and to be expected but once you come to a meeting of the minds you both agree on you damn sure need to honor the deal and follow through to buy it and or sell it.
I've had more guys do this to me when I'm selling something on rig talk than tgp. Not cool.

I actually like selling on tgp better than rig talk but I like the topics and share the same tastes in gear and music with most dudes on rig talk. I think both forums have something to offer.

You're published on the internet, obviously you've arrived and should be dealt with accordingly....right? ;)

as others have mentioned, there are some very interesting things that come up on TGP, albeit in the $1500-$2500 range, a place where i don't usually venture for non-retail, online purchases. the best deals to be had are on the boutique guitars some of those people pay outrageous prices on and then turn around and sell for roughly half of what they paid because the latest and greatest, ultra-exclusive, small-time builder is putting out a special run of 2.6 guitars with BR fretboards that were hand-rubbed in the vaginal secretions of portuguese nuns, whose maple caps were stored in an original foot trunk from the Titanic for 37 days and they MUST have one!!!

i've bought and sold quite a few items over there, especially shit that gets absolutely no traction here. you simply cannot beat the number of eyeballs you have viewing your listings there for the incredibly small price you pay.

I scored a late 67 Marshall slant w/original Pulsonic cone 20w G12M's in it for $1500 plus shipping a month back (I even covered the paypal fees, by the way!). Four years ago that was a $5000 cab. The seller didn't want to pack it, so I sent him a cover, some foam, and my Anvil case to put it in. Around $300 in shipping round trip, but man does it sound great!

Just a couple of weeks back I got a Burny Super Grade (LP Standard) with Burstbucker 1&2 pickups, nearly mint shape, rewired with 500k pots and a Gibson Historic case for $700 shipped, and all it needed was some minor electrical and a new nut. It's insanely easy to play, love it to death.

There are deals if you look, but there are plenty of lowballing, cheap fucks that want you to pay the shipping on a 2x12 cab they've lowballed you on to the East Coast from LA. I actually publicly flamed that member without using his name.

Asshat thought I should at least split shipping with him and eat the paypal fees, too. Like I said, there are deals, and dicks on every forum, who think nothing of chiseling/cheating, and acting like they're doing you a favor by buying your already fairly priced gear.

Don't get me on another rant!

I agree. I actually bought my beloved Mark IV over there and it was a seamless transaction. I know that snobbery exists everywhere. Hell, my Fortin clips get zero listens or views at HCAF and I used to get tons of listens and PMs there. I enjoy looking at the high dollar vintage gear get major pimpage on the TGP classifieds.

I noticed that the last couple times you posted clips on hcaf, i actually made a comment about that in the last thread you made.

I've generally had a lot of smooth transactions on TGP classifieds. Sure there are a lot of "trolls" and basement dwellers on the boards but there are everywhere.

One thing is for sure, there seems to be many people of TGP who have very large checking accounts, something I am very jealous of. ;)
