Like I said, there are deals, and dicks on every forum, who think nothing of chiseling/cheating, and acting like they're doing you a favor by buying your already fairly priced gear.

I once sold an amp to someone who was offering me less money because he was less of a cunt than the higher offer...

I actually had many good buying/selling experiences on TGP. Everyone I've dealt with has been courtious, and rarely played games with price. I've unloaded 2 OCD pedals over there, and got top dollar, whereas HCAF, and RT wouldn't give my asking price the time of day, or low-balled so bad it was insulting.

There's good people here, however. I've just been able to get more money for goods over there.

Haggling is cool and to be expected but once you come to a meeting of the minds you both agree on you damn sure need to honor the deal and follow through to buy it and or sell it.

I've had more guys do this to me when I'm selling something on rig talk than tgp. Not cool.

I actually like selling on tgp better than rig talk but I like the topics and share the same tastes in gear and music with most dudes on rig talk. I think both forums have something to offer.

That place is filled with mental midgets.
They pay $1000 for a Klon, that any idiot can build for $30 in parts.
And Tag buys a Dumble for $45K that you can get the same exact tone from a Fuchs for $2K.
And these complete douche pickles will nickel and dime you on a pedal....
Plus, you have to pay these ass burgers to list things in the classifieds.
That place is about as useful as a bull with tits.....

You had me with the Klon...but the deal with Dumbles is no different than 58/59 bursts...they go for 250K+...and you can buy a JG for 5% of that.
Also, if I had the coin I'd buy a Dumble for 45 and leave it in the closet for 20 years...it'll fetch more.

I hate selling stuff anymore, in the last month i got offers on a couple amps i was selling and i really wanted to move them but not give them away and i priced them to sell, so i get a bunch of offers and atleast 4xs it was less than i was asking but i wanted to move the product and i said ok lets do it, right after that all of them stopped responding or waited a few days and offered me even less that the first offer, i can deal with haggling but why waste time making offers if you have no intention on buying it once i accept your offer, some people wanna make half hearted offers and then shit their pants once we accept it and then just stop responding, tire kickers at their best.

I get offers for less than half the value….WTF is that and why would you offer less than half? It is like a slap in the face. I have also had several people work me down on price and then disappear when I agree???? 3 people on one item worked me down then all 3 vanished after agreeing to the deal

I think its a game people like to play, they kinda want what your selling and say to themself i will make a low offer but i bet they wont take it or if they do say yes i will think it over.
Then people like us who actually wanna make a quick sale say yes i accept your offer, after that the guy who made the offer shits his pants and says i dont think i wanna buy anything and i didnt think he would take my offer, so then he disappears.
Some make a offer but they really dont wanna buy it but they wanna say they tried to buy something, just a bunch of deadbeats wasting time because they arent the seller and it doesnt cost anything to ask.

I personally love the TGP classifieds. I dont sell there anymore but I buy alot. Ive had a lot of deals there - all good.

I think the buyer has the advantage there since there is soo much gear and soo many people selling. Buyers can be very agressive and quickly move on to another potential buy if the seller doesnt go their way.

I havent contributed to TGP in months. It doesnt fit my tastes and personality. nothing wrong with that. Thats why I hang here. I dont get butthurt cause TGP doesnt share my views on stuff. I just dont hang out there anymore.

I will say, TGP can be extremely sensitive and biased towards their fatcats. Even if you respectfully disagree with them you can easily make someone cry over at TGP and the mods take a biased and usually harsh IMO action.

Its very easy to upset the herd there. HCAF too. Though when that happens at HCAF you tend to get ganged up on big time

frankly, I don't see why TGP gets such a bad rap..they seem like a pretty low key group of people from my limited time there....they're not wild and crazy like here, and maybe don't have the same twisted sense of humor, but I don't get all the flack....

Getting bant from TGP is the best thing that has happened to me on the web.

You posted HCAF style over there, you might as well have put a target on your forehead.

I'm glad I got away from HCAF, because I was getting too caught up in that silly form of 'etiquette'. I've been posting on TGP more frequently now and feel quite content with it..................(hang on rant coming along..........................)

I know how you feel. Although I don't mind posting at TGP, I'm starting to get annoyed at all the trade offers being sent to my inbox.

• If I say I own an effects pedal but don't like it- I get a storm of offers from people I've never heard of to buy it for peanuts.
• If I ask about a particular effects pedal and then positively comment on the information given to me about it- I get a storm of offers from people I've never heard of to sell their pedal to me for hundreds of dollars.

For goodness sake! If I want to sell or buy a particular item, then I'll say it first!!!


I once wrote a post about using two 2x12 cabs in a stereo setup. Then I start getting these essay-long offers about custom-made cabs and all this fancy stuff, stuff like the speakers have to be exactly aligned otherwise the stereo image is disrupted and the tone affected....for goodness sake, Adam Jones of Tool uses different shaped cabs for his amps and runs all of them at the same time, yet his tone isn't degraded!

While I do appreciate the detail and information I can get over there, sometimes people take things way too damn far. It's like I could be walking down a road saying out loud "Oh I love ice cream!" and then heaps of obscure boutique ice cream sellers come up to me to offer shares in their multimillion dollar ice cream companies or 10 year supplies of some gourmet hand-made ice cream with milk from exotic nurtured cows and fruit grown in royal gardens...it's ludicrous!

I like RT and TGP content. My metal days are over though I still dig it from time to time, I'm digging other music these days which is coverd at TGP. From seeing Kiss on the Destroyer and Love Gun tours, and Black Sabbath's Never Say Die tour with VH opening for them, countless Priest/Maiden shows (a few on the same bill) through thrash, death metal, industrial, etc. into the mid-late '90s, I've been into metal...so many of the topics here are interesting.

The seller/buyer dynamic is similar on all forums, ebay, CL, etc. IMO.

For selling, when I get offers that are not of interest or don't comply with my request (e.g., not interested in trades), if they aren't someone I "know", I just delete the request and don't respond. A few ping me again (or more), other's get pissed off that's their problem.

I've purchased a few things from people here. I made an offer if they take it or provide a counter offer that I like, I always follow through.

It comes down to this for me: Say what you mean and mean what you say. Regardless of your playing ability or bank account, we each have our personal integrity and in these forums it is manifest in our word. Keeping one's integrity or losing it is priceless irrespective of the cost of an item. You decide what's more important for you. IMO.
