anytime someone asks for a money order with gear trading can only mean one thing.....they have had their PayPal account put on hold.

my paypal account was not put on hold. I quit paypal. they stole my money two times. one time I was using my paypal card to take 260 out of atm. the money got stuck in the slot, and before I could find a way to wrench it out the machine sucked it back in. I called paypal and they refunded the money the next day. around 3 weeks later I noticed my paypal was a lot less than last time I checked. I looked and saw I was 260 down and called them. I could never get a clear answer why they took it back. I tried multiple times and they never gave it back. next thing, I met a guy locally, sold him some gear, and he asked if he could pay with paypal. had my phone and said sure, if I see the money in my paypal right now you can pay. so he paid and the money was in my account. a couple days later the money was mysteriously gone. I called paypal and they asked for shipping info to see that the item arrived!!I said it was a local face to face deal. they said the buyer reported it to be a shipping deal. I said look, we both live in the same area miles from one another, why would I ship it. then they told me the dude has an Oregon address on his paypal. so I called over and over and never got the money back, so the guy got my gear for free. after the second time I was enraged. its not the amount of money, its that they can jack you at will and there are sheisters who use paypal and get away with it. I just got fed up. so now, if I absolutely have to use paypal I use my brothers. but I try to avoid it at all costs.

I did call the police. I was totally enraged. when I met up with the guy he came off as totally friendly and cool. the police said there was nothing they could do. I asked why they could do nothing. they said they are over worked enough as it is with real and serious crime. I then pointed out that this was also a real crime and the guy I was talking to got frustrated and said, "you know what I mean." he then basically told me to stop licking my wounds and to get over it. he said theft happens many times every day and they have no where near the resources to follow up on every theft. he said if it was many thousands it would jump up the list of importance.

You need to read the buyer/seller feedback section before making a purchase. I had a very bad experience with him about 2 years ago with a very expensive item. Many other users have as well - only a handful have came through though.

He even created a fake username to try and continue selling under another moniker. Another member on RT notified me, and I then notified our administrator.

All the information you want to know is in the buyer/seller feedback section.

thanks

Honestly man, it sucks you got scammed but you should always take the time to learn how something works before using it.

Another common scam is to pay a seller via gift, but funded with a CC, then do a chargeback...which is why as a seller you should be leery of accepting a gift unless its from someone you know.

I only use money orders and the one time I needed PP my sister did it through her account and it was a total nitemare. Screw PP. MO should only take 3 days tops to clear and a USPS MO can be cashed at any post office on the spot if they have the cash on hand. Did I already say screw PP oh yeah I did Screw PP.

This seems crazy, I would have sued the police department. Your taxes pay their salaries meant to serve and protect you. They CANNOT pick and choose crimes based on severity!
