I just noticed something: I've been using my VH4 "1x8ohm" output into the "8 ohm" input on the back of my cabinet. What difference is it if I use the "2x16 Ohm" or "1x8 ohm" output on the VH4 into "1x8 ohm" input on my cab?
that depends on what speakers you have in there now.

Hehe I should have have clarified- 2 16 ohms

I'm guessing, if you run in one of the 2x16 ohm inputs, you're running 16 ohms. Running in both would run the amp at 8. I'm sure, internally, the amp adjusts accordingly. I'd stay in the 1x8, if I were you. If it in fact ran at 16 into an 8ohm cab, you're asking for trouble. That's how you burn up an OT.

So just to clarify: I have a 412 Diezel cabinet coming in a few days. I know it has 4 16 ohm speakers. Does that mean the total cabinet impedance is 4 ohms?

No, It is likely wired at 16 ohms. Parallel/series. I believe the diezel cabs come with a 2 input jack so you can run it as a stereo cab with 2, 8 ohm inputs or as a mono cab with 1, 16 ohm input.

If the whole thing was wired parallel it would be 4 ohms but I dont believe that has been regular practice since marshall was doing it back in the day.

I see, so is it a higher impedance rating because more speaker= more power required?

Jesus.. It should be CLEARLY marked on the inputs of the cab, and CLEARLY marked on the head. Put 2+2 together, stop making it difficult. This is not complicated.

I'm sure it's 16 ohm mono, 8 ohm stereo, just like a Marshall cab, atleast the ones I've seen were. Not just speakers in there determine it's ohms, how it's wired contributes as well.

VH4 = $4399
4x12 = $1200

Common sense = priceless.

I need to double check before I buy speakers: What’s the impedance of each speaker in the 412 cab?

I believe wired in parallel makes it 16, series makes it 4.

The cab is series/parallel. In parallel it runs 16. Series, splits it into 2x8, halves. Left 2x16 series, (8ohms), and right 2x16 series, (8 ohms).

Hopefully, I said that right, and not bass-ackwards..

Crap man, I assumed that because my 212 has 16 ohm speakers. I just need to confirm what ohms each individual speaker is in the 412, I was just about to get 16 ohm speakers shipped out and reached the guy before he shipped.

I appreciate your patience in dealing with my noob questions :D

I'll make the sacrifice. If you want to send me the Herbert, I'll play it for a few years and make sure it's working ok and let you know if it anything breaks. I'm just that nice. :) :yes:

Joking, your amp is fine though, as everyone else said.

I'm assuming they're 16. That would make sense, the way the cab is set up.

Hehe ok. What a noble individual we have here, offering to make a true sacrifice for a person in need! Funny bro, funny :D
