Are you talking about the guy who used to play guitar with Bob Seger and Chicago or someone else?

New product development retainer fee is $50,000.....wow.

Notice the date on the price list, its 1990. In today's adjusted dollar figure,(19 years difference) it would be closer to $100K today (2009), not to mention the interest and notoriety D*mble has, so I'd expect if he published the price list today, it would be much more!

As I understand it, HAD designs each amp for the individual player style and goals.

This is not much different from working with an architect to custom design a house (which we did) to our needs and expectations. Everything is item or time (e.g. hourly fee) based; attorneys, accountants, and other consultative professional services have similar pricing models.

That said, I understand if you want a custom amp built for you by other boutique builders you may not have to pay for the consultative aspects, at least if they are a reasonable amount of time; or for the initial consultation (we had a 3-4 hour meeting with each of the architects we considered, we were not charged for this time, though I'm sure its built into the cost once you select one!) Now, if the average discussion with a custom amp builder for a custom designed amp based on their current designs is 10 or 15 hours, and you are pushing 30 or more hours, you may told you will need to pay for consultancy services.

I just dont see how you can justify spending that amount of coin on an amplifier when that's more then a down payment on a house. If you pay that much for a freaking amp, then your priorities are messed up.

can't believe poeple would actually care to pay that much, what a rip dude. 200 bucks for 10 minute phone converstation, hahaha. insulting

Are you actually talking to him ... or some call center In India

It's an modeling amp that accurately simulates the sound of monkeys fucking wet beach balls. Believe it or not, there's a huge market for this in Tanzania.

I'd never even heard of Robben Ford or Dumble until I came to these forums (all the big music forums that is)

and that's true for a lot of high end brands, though I've at least seen some in stores or heard about em elsewhere.

I honestly don't get how anyone would pay that much for an amp. I doubt they could honestly tell if it was a dumble unless someone told em. No way I'd pay that much or put up with lousy service (that includes the almighty Cameron - I'm sure they sound great, but the reports of customer service speaks for itself). There are plenty of good reputable companies that made good products and apparently have good customer service. why even bother with the ones who can't deal with people very well.

Doesn't particularly bother me, though I like avant-garde music too.

If you've listened to any Schoenberg/Berg/Webern type 20th century stuff, the idea of tone clusters, atonal music, 12-tone music, etc isn't that new.

Of course, whether you want to listen to it is another matter. :D

But this guy knows what he's doing.
Ya, Henry Kaiser knows what he's doing. But I don't think I've ever heard anyone, much less someone very well known play such absolute crap!

one thing for sure, i know i would have been pinching nose/breaching eardrums fighting off the screams of laughter 10 seconds into filming that one :D

and every time i hear a d bailey clip i wonder do his fans here a few kloinks and oinks and actually think "oh no dude i LOVE this one..."

That Derek bailey vid made the dumble/kaiser one look like a 12 bar blues in E!

We have run this video around and around here. Clearly not everyone's idea of what sounds good, or even qualifies as music, is not the same.

Can we let this rest?
