ADA MP-1 Channel (New from ADA Amplification)

This is a good point wrt noise floor. It would be nice to have the tone but not the noise. The compact form factor, newness, and lack of noise might be viewable as a value added. But, I still think the price is too high for this thing to ever be much more than an oddity, ADA is an old timer's brand @ this point (and it is niche rather than vintage in that respect, IMHO) and used units still abound cheaply.

And we know danyeo isn't buying one. :(

lol yeah, he def. won't be buying one. As for "buried in a mix" , sure you could make that argument about anything but if you are properly mic'in any amp and making sure it sits in a mix properly, I don't understand how a preamp into tube amp is going to be buried by a JCM800. To my knowledge the ADA may sound thin but it cuts just fine. I listen to old Extreme and White Lion live clips and the ADA's sound plenty big up there on stage coming through the monitors.

Yes. The pedals are literally coming together right now so demos should start by this weekend.

Who says this is all there is and there's not more to come? ;-)

The main focus for this particular piece is on on the go solution/alternative to hauling around an entire head or preamp/poweramp rack setup. This would sit on your pedalboard with the rest of your gear, just grab and go when needed.

That's what I'll use it for, a back up, on the go, or even as a separate channel lead if need be.
 
I'm feeling a re-issue coming on... that would be sweet (without the original price point in today's $$ of course) Rack is so "out of style", will be hard to completely rival the popularity of all in one solutions like a head or combo amp.

A head would kill. Give it the MP-1 preamp section the T100 power section and some actual knobs (that is one advantage this pedal has over the rack unit, too). Tone for days. :rock:

I don't think the MP-1 was the weak link in your former setup - but instead the Mosvalve power amp. Had you paired your MP-1 with something like a VHT or Mesa 2:90 power amp - you would have had ZERO problem hanging with that JCM800 or Recto. I know a lot of guys used those Mosvalve amps in their racks and they sound 'ok' on their own. But they just do not hold up against a good tube power amp. I had one myself for a while and ran into the same thing back in the day and tried just running my MP-1 into the return of a JCM 2000 DSL 100 and it KILLED! Ran that for several years and then switched to a Carvin TS-100 amp for a while. Both blew the Mosvalve away...........
 
Hmm. This looks interesting, I'll definitely check it out. But ultimately what they need to do is just reissue the MP-1 in all of its glory. Maybe do a spinoff version more to fit the times. But it's still a classic piece that many people wish was still in production... I'm curious how this will stack up to that tone, at least...
 
Sounds promising from the short riffage I could hear. That cab sim doesn't sound too shabby either. Any chance of rug bing into the loop of a tube amp to hear it with some power tubes?
 
If ADA were to reissue the MP-1 pre - and it doesn't have to be exactly the same as previous units, but instead a new incarnation - and include the cab simulation, flange, chorus from their analog line of effects, AND include DSP for reverbs, delays, etc...........I think it would take the world by storm!!!!! I think it would really compete with units like the Fractal or Kemper for guys who want "their sound" and aren't trying to replicate every amp in the world. Let's be honest - how many players are ACTUALLY using all those amps/effects when they play out??? Don't get me wrong - they are invaluable tools for studio recording, but I had both the Kemper AND a Fractal Ultra and with each one, I used maybe 4 or 5 of the amps to get the sounds I needed. Just not cost effective when they cost almost $3000.

But a new MP-1 with it's legendary REAL TUBE tone - along with new features, effects, and improved I.O. options - would almost automatically find a place in my rig!!!!

What do you guys think?

I can definitely see a place for that. They can instead of the patches just use regular pots for tonestack options and gain etc.. (like the pedal) BUT I like your idea of inclusing the cab simulation with a toggle switch as well as some chorus. For the effects I would even say just a good loop that can handle line/instrument level effects. Either way, bringing back somethng on the floor and then a rack mount version would be sweet. Find the niche right in the below 1000$ mark and you have a winner.

Yeah I will try and do a few into the loop of my rack mount recto. I spent time with that setup yesterday and it sounds really huge and beefy =)
 
Is this designed to be used in front of a completely clean channel, or one that is slightly breaking up? Or straight into a power amp?

I still can't find any demo's or reviews of it anywhere... Excited to hear more!
 
The primary focus is for a small, portable rig such as running it into the ADA cab simulator and out to the house or direct for recording. Having said that, it's not a traditional preamp but it will work either in front of a clean amp or in the fx return/dedicated power amp. It works pretty well in all situations but for obvious reasons I personally love it into an actual power amp/fx return. If you wanna run it into a clean amp out front, you can do it with a neutral eq setting.

I'm in the middle of a move (long and drawn out) right now so I haven't been able to put anything up just yet. ADA does have a few of these out with others for demo purposes too so it shouldn't be too much longer.
 
It looks like the dude is running it into the amp's fx loop (essentially). I wouldn't give up on it just yet. You can see at the start of the video he's plugged into the front of the amp and the preamp in/out of the amp.
