2 killer guitars and a mediocre cheap amp? So my math skills the past month may have been skewed a bit. I just bought the 2 killer Horizons and might not have left enough to grab an amp until well into next year.( sold my axe fx with intentions of an upgrade and just sent my kemper back because I didnt like it)
I like the Horizon that just came in more than my first one, although I like both more than any guitar Ive owned thus far. I have 2 days left on the return policy for the sky blue one. The some I bought it from has some monster amps and with the credit I could get myself into a SLO or KSR gemini/colossus or a nice ENGL
Whats the consensus here, 1 killer guiatr and a Killer amp or keep the 2 killer guitars and rock the yamaha thr10x for the next couple months?

Personally for me it's always been like this ...

great guitar + great amp = awesome tone
great guitar + mediocre amp = mediocre tone
mediocre guitar + great amp = great tone

I always find that amp sound has more to do with overall "quality" of the tone then the guitar ... generally speaking.

So i'd say spring for that killer amp + killer guitar combo.

You might try something like Positive Grid bias or something similar. Pretty inexpensive if you already have the components to amplify it, and they sound pretty good.

100% this all the way. Once upon a time I had a bronze Warlock (super cheap guitar) with a Bill Lawrence XL500 bridge pickup into a Marshall DSL 100. I sounded just fine.

Definitely ditch one of the guitars and don't screw around with cutting corners on the amp.

I just bought a little made in China Jackson Rhoads minion for about 250 bucks Canadian. Sounds really good through my Mesa Mark V and 4 x 12 recto. Get a killer amp!

$500 guitar>$2000 amp = tone greatness

$2000 guitar>$500 amp = tone mediocrity

There are exceptions to the rule, such as a 6505 if you wanna do metal, but that formula has always worked for me.

And another winner! I feel that you can find a nice used guitar in that 500$ range that will rival the more expensive ones, especially with a superstrat.

A great amp cannot be replaced. I would say you need a great amp to go with a top shelf guitar. If you just play at home at low volumes, a great amp is probably overkill. In that case I would just have nice guitars.

Part of my definition of a great amp is one that still makes me happy at bedroom volumes. With that being said, I disagree that it's overkill. :D

I'd go with 1 killer guitar and 1 killer amp, but if I had to pick one over the other I'd invest more in the amp though.

A shit amp will not reproduce the tone of a great guitar. My current amp (Bogner Shiva) is the best I have ever had and a big part of the fun is that each of my guitars (Anderson Hollow Classic, LP Classic, Parker Fly) sound very different through it even when I have the gain maxed. Best of all, my amp sounds really good at home volumes too. :)

Play them and buy the best amp you can... I wish I would have 25+ years ago
If you find your favorite amp but it's a little too expensive... just save up and get it.
Only really need one amp, one guitar...but after you get that covered... others will probably follow

Well, I guess the one on the right will be going back for either the Soldano SLO or the Rhodes Colossus. I'm mainly a home player but some will be looking to get back into jamming with friends. I figure I can also get one of the two notes reload units and run it through my monitors. Kind of like the best of both worlds between an axe fx and real amp.

Yeah the one on the left....... :inlove: :inlove:
Drop the other and get a kick ass amp.

Yup. And if you get a used SLO and it's not your thing, you'll get your money back if you move it. Not sure about the Rhodes, but clips of that amp sound killer. Good luck!
