I've been using a Z Vex SHO for that for about 12 years now and have yet to find anything that does it better...check one out if you can.

Dave,

what's your settings on the Tim and Timmy in Oclocks?

i know, i know, use my ears!

i've only messed with the Timmy, putting the Tim on the board in a couple minutes.

the pots only cutting is kind of deferent.

Wanna thank everybody for their
awesome advice!
You guys have given me plenty of insight
on boost pedals and I think I'm most intrigued
with the Suhr Koko Boost.
Thanks,
Rick

I love my OCD, it just adds this beautiful "umphhh" to any amp...its awesome.

Never played a QR, but I can only imagine how good it would sound with the OCD.

I would say try the Koko. You can run it as a clean boost or a mid boost, you can have the two cascade. It is the nicest boost pedal I've tried. I can't turn it off.

If you're making your tone more grindy/ballsy, aren't you by definition coloring it?
If your amp is plenty ballsy/grindy enough on its own, why do you need a pedal?

Not trying to be a smartass, I'm just not sure exactly what you're trying to accomplish.

Just what I wasn't lookin' for!!
Smartass Fuckin' advice.
Do me a favor and don't waste another line
in the thread with your Bullshit!!

Bit harsh, no?? I mean, there's a diff between a boost and an overdrive. A boost simply boosts a front end, take the CAL Mk.4:23 - it boosts, and can drive the front end into a real f*ckin' sweet natural overdrive...and there's NO coloration. Simply adds several dB of clean, pure, boost that when coupled with an already overdriven signal from the amp, simply sounds AWESOME!!!!!

I own and use an OCD, BB, and a couple others - they ALL color the tone, but the BB is the most natural and organic, while the OCD just slays with gobs of gain and overtones galore!! So, not pickin' bones with ya man, but the 1st response had a bit of meat to it, ya know??

I'll read the rest of the thread and maybe put my foot in my mouth, but the 1st thing that came to mind was whoa... Chill.

Peace,
V.

Listen to Mark Day

I liked the Klon for a clean boost (...I know....I know....).

I currently am using a Keeley modded OD808 as a boost. I've only had it for a couple weeks now but so far, so good.

With the Timmy - people say that it is transparent but it seemed like it colored my tone quite a deal :dunno:

Audio labs creation makes the best "Clean Boost" MK4.23 that I have used so if I was looking for what you described I would try their OD pedal. Believe it is called "Fire" or something like that. Great company and really cool looking pedal. They have a demo on the web page. Just my .02 cents

Listen, I was not in the mood for an analytical,
sarcastic, smartass remark, that's it plain and simple.
I wanted a simple remark, like the dozen of helpful
reply's I've gotten.
This reply above ^^^was exactly what I was lookin'
for in the 1st place. Just something informative & simple, plug it
in and hear a gain boost for a solo break that puts
a smile on my face, ya know?
Sorry for bein' Harsh Man, I just was not in the mood. ;)

So far I like the Suhr Koko, OCD, and CAL Mk. 4:23

I tried a KoKo boost the other day. Was i doing something wrong or can you not have both sides of the pedal on at the same time? I was playing it on a Dr. Z combo, i thought it sounded decent, but i wasn't getting a lot of gain from it.

I like how the Xotic BB+ has EQ for both sides of the pedal and you can use them both at the same time. The right side is the same as a regular BB, the left side has more gain and you have to be careful how you dial it in, it can get hairy.

I wasn't being sarcastic. I was trying to find out more about what you wanted the boost to do before I started throwing random suggestions. Getting a simple gain boost that doesn't color your tone is NOT the same as wanting a TubeScreamer-style pedal (which will, by its very design, color your tone). Your original post was asking for two opposite things and I was trying to figure out which one you were really looking for.

I was trying to help you out. You're the one who decided to turn it into a pissing match.

I got an MXR classic OD from GC on teh super cheap...the chinese version of the GT OD..works really nice..has assloads of gain though so I run the gain really low..but when I'm having a 'fat finger' day it works really well..it's in the same vain as an OD 808 or along those lines....a tube screamer circuit...I bet the GT OD is quieter...but MXR says they're the same exact circuit...

I don't boost much but when I do I dig this pedal in front of the QR

OCD for the win!!!!! Tonnes of extra gain if you want, or keep the gain off and simply volume boost. Nice tone knob feature to add mids or highs if needed.
