If you're making your tone more grindy/ballsy, aren't you by definition coloring it?
If your amp is plenty ballsy/grindy enough on its own, why do you need a pedal?

Not trying to be a smartass, I'm just not sure exactly what you're trying to accomplish.

Just what I wasn't lookin' for!!
Smartass Fuckin' advice.
Do me a favor and don't waste another line
in the thread with your Bullshit!!

Bit harsh, no?? I mean, there's a diff between a boost and an overdrive. A boost simply boosts a front end, take the CAL Mk.4:23 - it boosts, and can drive the front end into a real f*ckin' sweet natural overdrive...and there's NO coloration. Simply adds several dB of clean,
pure, boost that when coupled with an already overdriven signal from the amp, simply sounds AWESOME!!!!!

I own and use an OCD, BB, and a couple others - they ALL color the tone, but the BB is the most natural and organic, while the OCD just slays with gobs of gain and overtones galore!! So, not pickin' bones with ya man, but the 1st response had a bit of meat to it, ya know??

I'll read the rest of the thread and maybe put my foot in my mouth, but the 1st thing that came to mind was whoa... Chill.

Peace,
V.

Listen, I was not in the mood for an analytical,
sarcastic, smartass remark, that's it plain and simple.
I wanted a simple remark, like the dozen of helpful
reply's I've gotten.
This reply above ^^^was exactly what I was lookin'
for in the 1st place. Just something informative & simple, plug it
in and hear a gain boost for a solo break that puts
a smile on my face, ya know?
Sorry for bein' Harsh Man, I just was not in the mood. ;)

So far I like the Suhr Koko, OCD, and CAL Mk. 4:23

Gotcha man!! Interestingly enough, I was in this "when I'm in lead mode I need something that adds 'searing hot' and 'oooomph' to my signal" and what I found with a lot of the OD's was that they noised it up, or compressed it, or added grain, or did something to it that wasn't really what I was looking for. Ya ya, 808, and TS and BB and OCD and all these others - great...been there, done that. So then this cat tells me about this 'clean' boost, the CAL (Creation Audio Labs) Mk.4:23 and I'm like "Dude, I want a driver in the front, not a boost... I have boosts, it's not what I need". He sends it (obviously knowing more than I do ;) ). I get it.

Yep. Start with a hot lead channel and bust into solo mode, punch this baby on and it does everything and adds break up to the front end of the amp - but doesn't do this with ANY change to the tone, or your original signal. It's only got 1 control on it. The dB knob - this is it. And man, lemme tell you, I've taken really clean single coil sounds and then blasted them with this stomp and it breaks up like the best blues git playing ever. Add it to an already gritty, tasty, hot lead?? BOOM!!!!! It's red hot!!!!!

Peace,
V. :rawk:

Who's that humping the stage monitor in your sig?

I always wanted to know that too, thanks for asking. Thanks for answering. Beats a bunch of men in tights running on a field, no?? :D

Yo Inca, my pleasure m'man, and I hope it's everything and then some. I think you'll be very impressed - seriously over the top impressed with that lil' beast.

Peace :rawk:

I say the TIM. It has 2 channels and you can set it for a little gain on one channel and hit the boost for searing gain.
What kind of distortion could reach with tim in his two settings??

DOD 250 or YJM 308 modded as close as you can to "grey specs" works perfectly and feels like an added gain stage. This is my pedal of choice with my JCM800. Awesome. So simple.. so cheap.
