I am considering putting and Aldrich pickup in my LP.

I tend to like PAF type pickups best. I mostly play Classic Rock to Hard Rock. I consider AIC, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden Hard Rock.

I play a Boogie Mark V and a 5153 50 Watt and I use my volume knob a lot to change my tone. I like a pickup that cleans up well with the volume rolled back.

These are some tones I like, but I also need it to clean up well:

John Sykes, Brad Gillis on Speak Of The Devil, Aldrich On Burning Rain

Would you guys who have played an Aldrich in a Les Paul recommend it or do you think an another pickup would be better for my application?

Thanks!!!

I put an Aldrich at the bridge of my Les Paul Axcess. I absolutely love it. Its very powerful, a much better match for me than the burstbucker that was in there.

I may be the only one that wasn't crazy about it. Overall it sounded good but, a bit to dark and smooth for my tastes.

It's amazing to me that the Suhr Aldrich and Dimarzio Super Distortion sound so incredible in a Stratocaster or a Les Paul. Those guitars are a world apart but the pickups sound great in either.

Just an observation. ;)

Is there any dealer that sells the Aldrich for less than $104 and the SSV for $96?

I just ordered them from Macdaddy.com. They offered me 10% off my first order.

Good for you! I am confident you will be happy with your choice.

MY FAVORITE PICKUPS FOR MY LPC!!!

I have a set in one of my LP Custom as well. I have found something interesting with these PUP's. They take very well to some amps and not so much on others. In my Marshall and Uberschall...Great. Through a Diezel VH4, I really did not dig them. On the other hand in another one of my LP Customs I have Bare Knuckle Aftermaths that sound great in EVERYTHING. Just my .02.

Should be good. I have a pair of Suhr Aldrich pickups in my ESP ltd ec-400.

I have a set of the SD Whole Lotta Humbuckers in one of my Les Pauls, Have SSH+ and Aldrich in other Strat style Suhrs and like them a lot. To me the WLH's sound like bigger PAF, nice top end chime, plenty of grunt for a lower output pickup. In fact sounds hotter than what they are...

So how'd the Aldrich/SSV work out?

I got the last of the parts I ordered today.

I ordered 4 Push-Push pots and I am going to do the Jimmy Page wiring that gives you 20 or 21 different combinations.

It was a pain to find the Push-Push 500K Long Shaft Audio Pots.

I will be picking up my guitar Saturday morning from my tech. He called and said it is ready, can't wait!!!

Cool, hope you like the,. Love the Aldrich set in my lp standard. They split really well too.

Learned about the thornbuckers in this thread, now I am on the hunt for a pair for my lp custom.

Based on the tones that you say you like, the Aldrich should be a good fit. That said, those tones you like are anything but PAF sounding, and the Aldrich is far from being a PAF type pickup.
