hey guys

gonna grab a set for my les paul,

how many of you guys still using these pickups?

if you had em , and now stopped using them, what did you swap em out for?

what do you like about em?

what dont you like about em.

i have read that they can feel a little stiff.

any thoughts on that?

thanks in advance

I liked them in a buddy's R0, but prefer the Godwoods overall. It just seems to be a better balanced tone, to my ears.

I guess I'm not really a huge fan of Suhr pickups in general (liked the V60LPs, though), not sure what it is....maybe a little too "grainy" for me....

The Aldrich can be picky about the guitars it will get along with, but when it's a match it's hard to beat.

Overall i like the Anderson H2+ more, and have never had it not get along with a guitar.

I have a set in my LP Custom, and bridge p/u in my Suhr Standard. I think they strike a nice balance between vintage clarity/punch and modern hotness...maybe leaning a bit more towards the modern side. I stopped using the bridge p/u in the LP for a short while because it had a bit of that Duncan JB mid spike in the EQ, which I don't normally go for. Not quite as much as a JB, but it's there and it's a little more prominent in my LP than my Suhr, where the EQ is a lot more even. I almost don't hear it in the Suhr. So obviously the guitar is coming into play here. I tried a Dimarzio Super D that I had lying around (grew up with it, used to be my 'go-to' pickup) and a Motor City Afwayu, neither of which worked as well as I'd hoped. The Aldrich set is back in and I'm super happy. That little bump in the mids really helps cut through the dense mix of the 6-piece band I'm in.

Overall, it's a big sounding pickup and fills out more sonic territory than most any hotter pickup I've tried in recent years.

I have a set in my '03 LP standard LE and an Aldrich Bridge in my '73 LP custom. I like how they split. Also the neck Aldrich handles gain really well, which is nice. I also love the clarity of the pickups. For variety though, I may put a Gibson '57 classic and '57 classic plus in my '73 LP custom.

As far as some of the other pickups mentioned in this thread that I am familiar with. I am also a big Anderson H2+ fan, but never tried them in one of my Les Pauls. I have one in a Fat strat and one in a dual humbucker tele. I had a Afawyu in my LP studio, but it just sounded too hot and narrow in that guitar (which was really picky about bridge pickups)

Same for me...I got a set in a LP Traditional and they sound pretty good for a high output PU, a lot of drive but I have a set of Goodwoods in a '60's neck LP Standard thats my go to guitar...im just more acustomed to lower output PU's.

I had a set in my Les Paul for about a month. If you play heavy 100% of the time, they are great sounding pickups. I had two issued with the pickups. 1, they don't clean up very well. I am a volume knob junkie and need a pickup that rolls back nicely. I just didn't get that with the Aldrichs. 2, for me, they were a bit tubby in the mix. Too much low end, which kinda made my guitar get a bit lost in the mix. For my taste, I just prefer a more vintage output pickup. Now I did love the DSH+ that I had in the guitar before the Aldrich. I need to get another one of those.

My favorite humbucker I've ever used. I've played a few. ;)
Of course I have them in two Stratocasters. Ballsy, cutting, fat, huge.....etc.

Sounds great in my R7. They're higher output, so they suit me well. It's honestly similar to what a refined JB/59 set would sound like, in my mind.

I have them in one of my LPs. They are not incredibly hot pickups to me despite what they may be touted or rated as. Dont drop them in and expect pick harmonics or a likeness of an emg. They are nothing remarkable. I dont dislike them but I would not purchase them again either.

When I have heard clips of the Godwoods, they have always had a fizzy high end. Is that your experience with the Godwoods? Can the Godwoods sound as sweet as the Gibson '57 classic and classic + pickups?

I've got them in 3 guitars now including my 2 main gigging guitars - Suhr Modern and Jackson SL2H. LOVE the bridge pickup, not all that crazy about the neck. Think I prefer a Duncan '59 in there.

Don't have any experience with the 57s, but I would definitely not describe Godwoods as fizzy; they have some bite, but not fizzy, at all.

I come from the lower output pickup camp myself.

I have a set of WCR godwoods and they are very good.

Yes the do have some top end rasp and sometimes the low end is not as tight as I would like, but that is the nature of a hot PAF sound.

I hope the aldrich do not sound too much like the JB, which i found to be very shrill on the highs with 500k pots. and with not a lot of bass.

My my concern would be the pickups feeling too stiff when I play.

Listening to mark day clips he backs off on the volume knob and it cleans up prety good to me.

I have a anderson H3 sitting around, maybe I should give that a whirl too.

i have the classic 57 and plus and the godwoods

the wcrs are much clearer and less muddy sounding while retaining thickness.

I love the neck. It's a perfect match for the bridge and has that beautiful singing quality about it. It also sounds great when you split it.
