aldrich pickups

I've got one on the way for an alder superstrat. I'm really interested to hear it in there. The best examples I've heard all seem to be alder or ash bodies and bolt on necks.

I have a set in my Suhr Modern and I love them. They're clear, percussive, and warm. They're not terribly high output and for whatever reason, they marry with the bolt-on mahogany guitar beautifully.

That said, I put them in a PRS and didn't like them in there. They were "brash." - I don't know how else to describe it. PRS DGT pickups are incredible in that PRS and are my go to now.

That being said, I didn't put them in a singlecut PRS, I put them in a 25" scale double cut. A shorter scale of a Les Paul might marry with the Aldrich pickups better.

I liked them in a buddy's R0, but prefer the Godwoods overall. It just seems to be a better balanced tone, to my ears.

I guess I'm not really a huge fan of Suhr pickups in general (liked the V60LPs, though), not sure what it is....maybe a little too "grainy" for me....
Same for me...I got a set in a LP Traditional and they sound pretty good for a high output PU, a lot of drive but I have a set of Goodwoods in a '60's neck LP Standard thats my go to guitar...im just more acustomed to lower output PU's.

When I have heard clips of the Godwoods, they have always had a fizzy high end. Is that your experience with the Godwoods? Can the Godwoods sound as sweet as the Gibson '57 classic and classic + pickups?
Yes, not really fizzy but more of a high end bite, but only if you have them too close to the strings...I found the sweet spot at 7 64ths bass and 6 64ths treble side with the string depressed at the last fret

I have an Aldrich in the mail coming my way now. I'll record some comparison clips. I have a 1985 SD JBJ, EMG 81, Fender Atomic, and a Mystery humbucker to compare it with. It will be with an Alder body bolt on maple/rosewood neck. 10-52 strings. What tuning would you like? Drop C or Drop D?

Heres some noodling I did last year with the Aldrich...gives you a little idea between the Shur and the Godwood...sorry for the crappy recording, the Q3 kinda crapped out on the levels at the beginning and compresses the sound :(

Thought you might find this interesting, in the intro I use my Taylor SB2-S which has Taylor's vintage alnico humbuckers in it and then my Suhr Modern with Aldrich Humbuckers. For the lead parts I have the Taylor & Suhr rhythm tracks panned left and right.

I've got one in an alder bolt-on superstrat with birdseye maple neck and it sounds killer.

I have had them in a few suhr moderns and liked them so I put a set in a lp axcess and am impressed.
The axcess had burstbucker 1 and 2 set and sounded a bit thin and bright. I wasn't sure if it was the thinner guitar or pickups.
I just had aldriches put in and it did what I wanted, thickened it up made it snarl more and a touch of compression and a bit more modern tone.
I dont know about the jb references, I have had them in a couple LP's and absolutely hated it there, although I like the jb in an alder strat.

I've got them in 3 guitars now including my 2 main gigging guitars - Suhr Modern and Jackson SL2H. LOVE the bridge pickup, not all that crazy about the neck. Think I prefer a Duncan '59 in there.

what about the neck did you not like?

too flubby?

Not enough bite?

I'm not great at describing tones but I'd say flubby is close. I typically only use the neck pup for cleans and occasionally for leads, the '59 seems more chimey and open, the Aldrich is darker and feels flubby on leads.

Ive had them in my Custom for a few years, I do agree that they have too much bottom end, easily fixed by lowering the E and A poles (But it was doing my head in for a good while). I put the neck Aldrich in my V, cos I think the 59 is THE perfect neck pickup, especially for that Sykes tone

Got my Aldrich bridge Pickup in the mail yesterday. I'll record some comparison clips tomorrow. Well, unless I get lazy. :D

Love 'Em!
Great for my style of playing.
Swapped out a set of Bare Knuckle
Painkillers for the Aldrich's, couldn't
be Happier with the change.
The BK's had a Midrange that I just
couldn't bond with, put in the Aldrich's
and I haven't looked back.

Okay, I installed the Aldrich in my Cyclone. I really like the way it sounds at full volume. Problem for me is that it doesn't clean up very well. Sure it gets cleaner but it also gets dull. I hate that. My EMG81 cleans up better AND stays bright. Same thing with my Fender Atomic pickup which is pretty hot at 16.4k. It cleans up really nice. It has a EVH 500k pot. No tone knob. Same as my other guitar with a JB and that cleans up really well AND stays bright.

UPDATE........ I had it wired incorrectly. I assumed the wiring that was in there from the factory was correct and just copied it.   All is good now. I can't tell if it sounds the same or a little better at full volume but now it cleans up much better AND stays bright. I'm pretty sure it's a keeper. Looks cool too. I got the chrome nickel cover. I can't say it sounds much better than my other pickups but I'm happy.

Pickup Comparison test. The Aldrich is in there.

Can you guess which one??

So I installed an Aldrich in an alder superstrat, bolt on maple neck with ebony board. The first thing I heard was how thick sounding it is. I lowered the bass side a bit and added some mids to the amp eq and it just crushes, but has a sort of chewy bottom end and fluid highs. Really good clarity on chords, eq is maybe a bit bottom heavy and lightly scooped, but overall sounds great. If your guitar sounds thin or bright this would be a great option.

Also, it splits pretty well, mixing with the middle single alright, but it's not it's strength.

I'll be ordering an Aldrich for the bridge of my HSS Am. Std Strat any day now.....

I have been thinking about putting them in a LP STD and taking out the EMGs,,sounds like I should move in that direction, thanks for the question and answers!!
BTW what pots are you guys running with them??
