Although I respect AB, and actually like some songs, hopefully this go round is a little off the norm. Not saying their formula doesn't work, but it's as if they sit around listening to their own records and then write a new one. Heard one, kinda heard them all.

First two were really good IMO. III was OK, but like you said same old same old. I'll still get it, but maybe simpler would be better? Really talented band though.

Unfortunately that's a rocky road to drive down. Allot of times when bands do change people are like WTF is this shit?

The first album sounded like a better version of Creed but you could tell they were hungry to prove themselves. The second album was where they really hit their stride and found their identity and it remains their best work by far IMO. The production seemed better on the earlier albums too. Especially compared to Fortress. Everything on Fortress sounds sort of jumbled together and is taking up too much sonic space and the guitars are very messy. But this is the way it goes...considering they're already four albums into their career and still writing pretty decent material, they're doing alright. They're a hard working rock band that is actually thriving in this day and age and they all are very talented.

Wow, this is surprising. I hear a difference in each of their CDs.

The first was very 90s polished, happy even when singing about darker things. The second record was a major shift - due mainly to Myles being involved in the writing and playing. Lots of up and down on that one. III was darker all around and was too busy. Like many other modern metal bands, they've lost the use of space and dynamics on a lot of their recordings. I will agree that Fortress and III have a lot of similarities. If V sounds like them and doesn't have some sort of innovation, I will start to worry.

Thought I read Tremonti switched to Blades Amplification?

I agree with everything above about the first two albums being their better work.
I was and still am a huge fan of those albums.

Apart from sonics, I just felt that the songwriting just wasn't there on the latter two.
I can't help but think that the members being involved with multiple other projects (Myles with Slash, Tremonti with Tremonti) results in a lack of development both in songs and as a band.

Eeh i'm in the other boat completely. I love Tremonti's tone and gear, but have always hated the writing. I'm biased though, I was raised on black metal

You just described 90% of American hard rock recorded in the last 15 years.

There's the tier one bands like black label, creed, godsmack, disturbed, Rob Zombie blah blah blah that have been generic from the start of their careers but yet so many people eat that slop for breakfast even though they all just keep making the same shit over and over again.

Then you have your tier two flash in the pan bands who all look the same, dress the same, sound the same and have three word band names that people forget quicker than their music. They are always leaning on whatever the flavour of the month genre is and so on. Bands like Pop Evil, Three Days Grace, Hinder and all that mindless, forgettable drivel.

There's so little imagination and creation in American rock music these days and it's sad. Alter Bridge have the talent and star power to do something great but the reasons they don't sell a lot of records are that Myles doesn't sing like a yarling mess and they write music that seems to be either too heavy for the sheep radio listeners and not heavy enough for the metal crowd so it sits in limbo.
