This is why i ship everything to my work. My Hours are 7:30am-4:00pm M-F. Just seems easier to ship to ones place of employment than run the risk of shit being wrong.

I ship to my work as well. It has two advantages 1. someone is there to sign for it. 2. My wife doesnt see it.
I do the same although I stopped hiding from the Wife. She deems my gear, "My Mistresses" saying I spend more time with them over her.
Awhile back I asked her to hold the door for me while I walked in a new Carol Anne Triptik. It was the first one Allen made. The name badge was facing outward as I walked in. Her reply" Jesus Christ, they have fuckin names now" I almost dropped the amp.

LOL!!! Man, that is classic!!

That's probably the only benefit I have of living in a secure condo. Besides cameras and what not there is like 7 units per floor and most of the fuckers in my building are old retired Asians couples mainly. I pretty much always opt for no signature if possible.

I ordered a Gibson Gothic Explorer back around 2001 when I was living on Hickam AFB. I came home after a full day at work and the guitar box was out in the sun leaning against my carport!!! I kept thinking how surprised I was that the guitar was still there and more surprised that Hawaiian sun didn't torch the box and the guitar inside. LOL
Lol... I don't think Hickam is as safe as it use to be, in fact the whole island in general is declining in terms of crime etc. You are right about one thing though... I seriously worry about the sun/heat when buying new guitars. Especially if they are being shipped from the mainland in the middle of winter, I usually request they loosen the strings a bit if can. ;)

Definitely good advice. I get everything shipped to me at my company's PO box at a local Postal center.

Last couple of things I ordered that were supposed to require signature were just left on my door.

It was stolen right off of my buyers porch. It was then sold in front of a guitar store for $600.00.
The buyer of the stolen amp, supposedly not knowing it was stolen, made contact with the person who worked on the amp, who then passed on his phone number. This was passed on to the Police where the report had been filed. The buyer is returning the amp to the Police and supplied information on who he purchased it from.

Seems like Justice will be served. It took a lot of effort on several people's parts supplying information, pictures as well as filling out deposition statements. The house it was stolen from was in a nicer, quiet neighborhood.

Moral of the story is, it can happen anywhere.

 Seems like they may have a suspect according to the detective. I hope they bust his ass. If he did it once, he's done it before, and will do it again.

Glad it looks like a good outcome, Gary.
Except for the buyer of stolen amp i guess. Do they get to sue the thief? Or SOL?

Missed that part, and assumed he was already refunded.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem much happens to these assholes that steal things. There was an article recently about a guy around here that was arrested a few months ago for stealing multiple packages. A few months later and I see posts and pictures of the same asshole stealing packages again.

I believe something along these lines. He is returning the amp to the Police. He provide a lot of info on the suppossed thief. I assume if convicted he will be ordered to pay restitution as part of his sentence.

In my case my buyer asked me to not require a signature when I always do. He also did not return to the home it was delivered to for almost eight hours after delivery, so it sat out all day on Christmas Eve into nightfall.

Bad deal, at least they found the guy. I hate thieves and scammers. I do prefer no signature as I am never home to get the delivery BUT if it is a high dollar item I, like others have said just have UPS or Fedex hold the package so I can pickup.

You're lucky it didn't happen in California the state has reduced most theft and burglary to a misdemeanor offenses, a good friend of mine is a cop in Cali, he said they are not investigating cases like they used to and now the crooks usually just sit there and wait for their ticket if they happen to be caught red handed.

I hope they guy gets the amp in good shape. Has the carrier refunded you or are they the waiting for the results of the investigation?

UPS denied the claim and sent it to Crawford who I assume is an outside contractor for further review. They requested a Police report be filed which my buyer did. I am not sure UPS is liable as they have GPS tracking showing the driver was at the correct location. The location seemed secure, although the home was fairly close to the street. They delivered it and left it at the front door where it was stolen. I assume the thief probably scoped it out and later returned under darkness.

I don't ship anything over $500 without a signature, just because of stuff like this. Fedex now has Walgreens and Fedex Office as destinations. They hold the package for the buyer, but they have to show ID to get it. Still, it's better than the porch pirates getting your gear!
