They need a Mk 6 with some modern metal tones.

Tons of internet chatter about this. Google is your friend.billsbigego":2m5mu9t7 said:I have a MKv with the IIC mode. I think it sucks. Is there a difference between the mode on the MKV and the real IIC amp?

The difference is very small. You probably would not like the real deal either. The internet has turned the IIC+ into the greatest amp ever. I'ts not that great. There are many modern amps that sound better and are more versatile.

The difference is really noticeable. I think the Mark V is a great amp, but I like a real IIC+ just more. No youtube clip is going to show you the difference. Any of the Mark series can cover a lot of sounds. So if you say that modern amps sound better (which is totally a matter of taste) and are more versatile, then I wonder how much time you have spent with these amps.

They are versatile but I spent enough time with Marks to know that three independent channels (no shared eq) aint happening other than with the V. That's what I meant when I said there are more versatile modern amps.

My only experience with Mesa is a Recto recording preamp and a Mesa 2/90. The tone was alright, but nothing great.
That and the MKV I have now. My friend has one of those micro recto and to me it seems more like a rock amp than a metal amp. Needed a boost in front of it.
I'm a cellar dweller. I boost the gain and drop the mids on the EQ, though I don't use the preset EQ setting, I like a bit of mids, the preset is too scooped IMO.
That said, what I mean is that I don't play at band volumes where you need to add some mids and drop the gain. I've used mostly EMG's in the past and most of my guitars now has passives, so there seems to be a gain drop with passives and the MKV on MKIV mode with even the gain maxxed out.
I just have not been around much tube amps really. I have a 6505+ as well, but don't use it. Seems too scooped for me of a tone. I'd like to get my hand on some of the Engl stuff someday, but that's not gonna happen. I'm pretty happy with the MKV and if I need more sizzle, I use a Voodoo Sparkle Drive up front as just a boost. But I just fail to see the raving about the IIc+ mode.
