I love the Satriani JVM. Fantastic amp!

The Satch JVM is awesome. Way better than the normal JVM. IMO anyways.

This is not the first time I've heard this. I've thought about trying a Satch version for years but just never pulled the trigger.

I picked up a used JVM 205h for dirt cheap a while back and absolutely love it. The orange channel with gain around 11 o’clock and pushed with EQ and OD pedals sounds majestic, 3D sounding. It just has a depth to it. It’s hard to explain but none of my other amps do that. It sounds dynamic if that makes sense.

I need to posted a recording or something. I will say I think it sounds very bland without being pushed and EQ’d though, but I think most amps do.

Yep, boosted orange is where it's at. I've owned a 205H 3 times, and got rid of all three times for the same reasons. Noisy as fuck, and hated the FX loop. It was killer sounding with both SED's, and KT77's.

I’ve had the original 410, the Satch 410, and also rented the 205
for a short time.

JVM410: OD1 Orange was gold, the best channel/mode. Clean channel I thought was really good too. Loved the switching options. Cons: super compressed, lost in a band mix easily if more than one guitar, sounded better with dynamic pickups like Bare Knuckles. Super noisy on the gain channels, noise gate in the loop a must. Loop is touchy with certain pedals. Crunch channel didn’t crunch.

JVM205: I didn’t have a lot of time with this but it was great. For some reason the preamp was less noisy than the 410. Cons: OD channels are based on the OD2 channel of the 410 which has a different mid-Center than OD1 which is traditional Marshall.

Satch 410: Less compression and better dynamics overall. Has a choke and noise gate built in. Crunch channel crunches! Crunch Red is killer and based on the AFD circuit. Cons: Amp is overall more hard rock oriented. Softer and spongier attack. Original JVM much better on OD channels for classic Marshall metal thrash attack. Satch JVM needed a very slight boost to get the same attack. Clean channel is based on the 6100 and more spanky sounding. I liked original JVM clean channel better.

Summary: I’d love a JVM with the OD1 Orange and Clean channel of the original 410 with the crunch channel and noise gate of the Satch.

I’ve heard the complaints about the noise and the loop , but I’ve owned a few of them over the years , and I have never experienced that.
Yep...never an issue with either of mine. Even had to rent one when I did a fly date once, zero issue's. Played live alot with many different amps, never had more compliments on my tone than when I was playing the JVM...and my other guitarist used a Bogner Shiva.

whats your secret? keep the channel volumes down low?

I have a jvm 210h, I just use a Fortin Zuul and a maxon od808x with it and it’s beastly. Without the Zuul the noise is just way to much for me

Lately I’ve been running the JVM (all my amps actually) without using the loop. I go into the Suhr Reactive Load and put all my time based effect after the SRL. That’s been outstanding and given lots of options.

Check the thread history here over a decade ago and you will see most people on here loved them.. now the "woke" cork sniffers scoff at them

My 210H is a personal favorite. The versatility of the 410H never appealed to me, so I'm glad I went with the 210H. Especially considering I stay on one channel & one mode, the orange mode gain channel. Everything just sounds right with it. The freq's, the response and attack, the voicing...I play it through my Mesa Trad 412 and the pairing is perfect.

I had a JVM 205h and 1960 cab. It was great, but way overkill since I only play at home these days. I sold it, but I still have a JVM1H though (the 1 watt 50th anniversary head).

This thread is giving me serious JVM gas. May need to put my Kemper in the classifieds

I always thought that it was at best mediocre and you can get something better for half the price. I would take a JCM2000 DSL over one- and it's much cheaper.

I would also take a DSL over it.

Nah mate, just buy Cililab's Mr. JVM and The ChopTones Marshall JVM410HCF Dave Mustaine Signature Head (called "Brit JMV410 Carbon Must") packs and you'll be good-to-go, man. :D

JVM is a great amp, it has pros and cons just like any other amp, and they've all been listed here in the thread.

The biggest con is the compression and excessive preamp noise for high gain
The pros are the versatility of the channels/modes and switching, and that killer OD Orange channel.
