Amp rabbit holes

Like I mentioned, I don`t want to offend anyone here, it was just my gutfeeling about this the first time I red it. Maybe I`m too suspicious about it after reading all the things that revolve around Cameron amps. I should avoid this topic actually and leave it to others.

If you read the linked thread he goes on to say that none of Mark's stuff sounds like that amp so the story didn't benefit Mark and Chub has never done anything with amps to profit from it. I get being suspicious but what would the point be of saying "oh yeah there was this awesome sounding Jose amp that nobody has managed to replicate...". I'm not offended I'm just trying to figure out what the point would be of making up the story.

You have a good point there dude (y)

Curt(Chub) is ABSOLUTELY trustworthy; and if he says it I wouldn't hesitate to believe it. No doubt in my mind. He's a very good player who moved to LA back in the 80s; like a lot of guys it didn't work out but started his own gear sales business and knows a ton of great players, amp guys, etc...and now has probably the best bang for the buck USA made superstrat business going in Chubtone guitars. A lot of members here are newer, and aren't familiar with some of the old timers but Curt was one of the originals here way back.
This isn't meant as an abrasive response to you BM. Just an FYI from me.

Cameron’s used to come up for sale in the classifieds all of the time. Seems those that have them aren’t active anymore and sell them on reverb or privately, or in general not at all.

One thing about his amps is that you had great sounding ones and not so great sounding ones. To own an amp he did is one thing, to own an amp that sounds good and wasn’t permanently ruined with epoxy and spray paint is another.
This post is not meant to ruffle anyone's feathers regarding Cameron and his ripping people off; so let's not misunderstand this....but I've heard the statement "some are great and some aren't so good" with Cameron modded Marshalls....it seems to get regurgitated over the years but I've yet to ever see "don't buy that 1984 2204 with the Jose mod because it is average!" written by anyone.
I must be super lucky since at this point I've had 10 Cam modded Marshalls and 2 Cam Migs. All were really good to really great; some unreal great. No average or 'bad' sounding amps. Not even close. I'd take any of them over all the others, including the 2 Nick modded Marshalls(also great) and the 2 Monomyths(great as well).
If I saw one for sale for a reasonable price I wouldn't hesitate to grab it.

I did read this story before and the first thing that came to my mind is, that it sounds fishy. I mean, all of the sudden the one and only amp got sold away without notice to Mark or the storyteller? And of course this holy grail amp got then returned to stock and even get sold further which means: please don`t even bother finding the amp back again as the magic is gone anyway?

Of course we are talking about an amp the original owner didn`t want to sell even for way over the market value at this time. But luckily all the secret sauce in this amp was extracted by Mark before the amp got lost.
Not sure who the storyteller is and I don`t want to offend anyone, but there are to many coincidences or red flags in this story especially knowing the shenanigans around Mark.
@Chubtone Curt, you’re needed here

Agreed. I had 5 Cam modded Marshall’s and played my friend’s Jose mod, so 6 total that I tried, all sounded very good to great and even the worst sounding one I’d still take of any modded Marshall’s I had by Gower (KK++ & Rockmonster), Friedman, Kruse, Kolbe, and a few others that I won’t name out of respect. I still ultimately sold all my Cam mods (still have my ccv) because I came across other amps I liked better

As good as those Cam mods sound though, I’d bet between your C, 72 & Naylor they still may not last long for you. I got a Cam Jose last summer that imo was one of the 2 or 3 best sounding Cam mods I tried so far in terms of tone (didn’t sound as big as others though, no depth knob) and I still couldn’t justify keeping it with the stuff I have now. I also am well aware of how much I liked that one because I AB’ed to other Cam mods I had in the past when it still belonged to my friend locally. I was jealous of it for a while lol

Yep it wouldn't displace anything here. Still the king of modded Marshalls, that I've owned anyway

I avoid the Wizard rabbit hole more than any other. It just has the rep of being sold/traded like no other and I don't need it if I don't know what I'm missing right lol
The magic of the Wizards are the power sections....that's where you get it. If you can't/don't turn up your rigs regularly, like stadium loud just for fun (I do with my amps a few times per month) then a Wizard is a waste of money Imo. Not that at low/medium volumes they aren't killer, they are but at those volumes not much different than what you already have.
But if you can turn up, that's where they shine like an old Superlead.

That’s why I moved on from my mtl 100

Isn't the "Meshuggah thing" more about the boost than the actual amps?
All of their “amps” have been marketed as the tightest without boosts ie DAR , Fortin , not sure if they have had any other endorsements.

Destroy Erase Improve and Chaosphere were recorded with boosted Rectos before anything fancy was on the market.

"Tight" became the last thing I look for in an amp after I realized I can just put a parametric EQ in front...

Agreed man ! I run all my amps with either an eq or a hpf/lpf filter and I can get a 700$ amp to sound close to an 4k one but I still love chasing gear lol
