I've never really used one before, but my wife and I are moving into a new house with hardwood floors. I'm just curious what elevating my little 1x12 combo's would do for the tone.

I plan on the big boy amps to remain on the floor, just fyi....

meh, don't think they'd be worth much?

if they're around your big boys, just put it on top of 4x12.

people claim those stands that kind of horn load the open back of combos are cool, but they're pricey unless you DIY them.

I use one with a built in mic stand for when I play out. It looks good and does the job of getting the amp tilted back and setting the mic in place. For home I just raise it up to chest high so I don't have to turn it up too far. Bottom line for playing out yes. Home no. Mine is the Ultimate stand.

i've been using one with my cube 60 1x12 combo and my laney aor combo for the past few weeks. what do i like about it? i can set the stand height and angle so it's not right in my ear. it also makes it easier to find the right height when playing in a group with other instruments. they're supposed to be better with open back cabs than closed back. haven't tried that yet. i used to set it on top of a milk crate. i think the stand is an improvement.. ymmv.

I might just buy one from Guitar Center and give it a whirl. I'm honestly looking to be lazy and keep my Vox AD60VTX easily accessible from my computer chair. :aww: :D

No, i'm not a big fan. I don't like the way the amp sounds when you take it off the floor.

I honestly prefer the off floor sound. I feel it takes out the artificial boomy lowend and leaves you with amp's pure sound. That's why I install casters even on 2x12's.
