looking at a friends Marshall VS265. It was having problems cutting in and out while playing it. Opened it up and only thing I can really see wrong is C19 looks slightly raised and could possibly be bad, dunno for sure.

Other thing is that it has one 12ax7WA sovtek on the board. I was going to replace this tube but all I have are 12ax7's, a few LPS's, but no WA's. Is it ok to substitute a normal 12ax7 in this position or is that a bad idea?

Thanks for any help

the tube should be fine.

if it has a serial FX loop, dirty jacks could cause the problem. jump the loop with a short patch cable to verify. might as well clean all the pots and jacks while you're in there anyway.

Will do! Thanks for the reply!

Can't help with VS in gereal, but knuckle is correct - just don't use ECC82/12AU7s. Everything else 81, 83, AT7, AX7 works.

Thanks guys!

I cleaned all the jacks with cleaner and a spare plug. Put the tube back in. Cranked the crap out of every channel on that thing and switched back and forth for about 30 minutes, no issues at all.

Have a call in to my buddy for him to try it out but it may take a few days for that to happen. Only other thing I can think of is maybe it gets too hot after a few hours of playing, overheats, starts doing funny things...

Was fun tearing the thing down, removing the boards and getting all put back together. Took about 45 mins overall.

Hopefully my choke install next week goes as smoothly.
