I have a bunch of speakers that need a home. A guy locally is selling an unloaded mid-90's Ampeg slant. He says its all birch ply except for an MDF back panel. It essentially looks mint and he is asking $75. Just curious if anyone uses/has used one.

I had an Ampeg slant 4x12 (stereo cab) for a good # of years. It was an early 90's edition. Black tolex w/ the metal plate Ampeg logo at the top left of the cab. Solid cab for sure. At $75 it's worth a shot at figuring out if it works for you. I got rid of mine once I got the compact Orange 4x12.

I have been using the same mid 90's Ampeg cab for over 15 years, with the original g12-75's in it. It's withstood years of gigging, and sounds great...it's a total tank. Never wanted or had the need to change out cabs. For $75, do it.

Here's a pic of the cab

Thats a good one. I had one one. I believe there is vintage 30's in it. Very under rated cab.

Tell him $50 but be ready to pay $75. They are as others have said, very good cabs.
The problem with 4x12's, is that they are very hard to sell. If you get it for $50 you should be able to sell it for $50. It might be worth more but they just do not sell. If you sold it here the shipping cost would be more that what you sold it for.

Good luck!

I have an Ampeg V4 straight 4x12 that's I've owned and gigged with since the late 70's. It's built like a tank. I think I paid $50 for mine in the 70s.

I wouldn't hesitate to pay $75 for one.

yep. same here. love mine. 75 is a steal. they sound good and are built solid. you can do more to them to tighten them up too. i took that mortite clay rope caulking and put it under my handles and between my cab and back panel. it tightened up the rattel. mine came with celestion t75 speakers, and i x patterned them with g12h100's.

always wanted to replace the MDF back panel though and rewire it without the switching panel.

that being said, after at least 400 gigs, it's still solid, albeit a little beat up. i actually put some checkered weave on it a while ago, and love the dirty, worn in look of the weave i bought....though it did get a tad crooked at the bottom, i could care less, adds to the mojo.
