...And then Cancel Culture Came for the Left

So apparently this needs explained

Jimmy Kimmel quite fucking literally ticks ALL OF THOSE BOXES with his comments on the shooting. Bob Iger and the Disney/ABC brass damn well know this. They are even on Jimmy Kimmel's side. They just know what the actual statute is, and they know Jimmy can face consequences, and they don't want the entire network/corporation to face those consequences too.

The same people who have whined "it's not cancel culture, its consequence culture" are completely missing the forest for the trees on this. Jimmy Kimmel was suspended because he fucked up, big time, and ABC/Disney didn't want to get their empire entire fucked over by his dumb ass.

Is 47/73/1217 the best way to handle this? No, but it literally is the law. You can whine about freeze peach all you want, but this is the world you created. Now that you unleashed the frankenstein monster, you have the temerity to whine like a baby when it turns on you?

There are multiple threads that all tie together with this, and it's really telling that now the "Free speech warriors" are coming out of the woodwork.

I mean, if you can't understand how it's stupid to show "love" to a hungry tiger by trying to hug it vs how it's smarter to show "fear" by getting away from it, and then extrapolating from that the idea of how "always showing love and never fear" is stupid and antithetical to survival, I don't know what to tell you.
You've twisted things so far out of context with this no one really knows what you're talking about now.

You say all this but you've referred to anti vaxxers and anti maskers as "selfish retards" in this thread. There is nothing to debate with you. You are still using cancel culture language, while complaining about cancel culture. This is why I prefer my "religious-based nonsense", more insults and negative, emotion driven language.

Simply saying or writing that people who refused to mask are stupid 5 years after the fact doesn't make me an active participant in "cancel culture."

Here's another wonderful analogy for all my adoring fans:

dude: "Check me out I'm going to hug that hungry tiger"
dude: "ouch that hungry tiger bit me when I tried to hug it"

GG: "that was a stupid thing to do"

dude: "WOW STOP TRYING TO CANCEL ME"

GG: "I'm not. I'm just saying it was stupid for you to have done that. I didn't call your job to try and have you fired. I didn't try to ban you. I just said what you did was stupid."

dude: "wow I can't believe you tried to cancel me"

Me calling anti-vaxers and anti-maskers selfish retards is not me trying to cancel them. You're playing the victim card really hard here.

You want to be proven right, and you are, because the cancel culture you fostered is now coming back to haunt you. You expressed love for the hungry tiger and once it finished devouring people on the right, it turned to the left for another meal.

Here's what Jimmy said, verbatim:

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."
"In between the finger-pointing, the White House flew the flag at half-staff, which got some criticism, but on a human level, you can see how hard the president was taking this.”

Then he showed the clip of the president being asked how he was holding up after the shooting, to which Trump said "I'm good. Anyway check out this great new ballroom we're building!" then spoke at length about it, showing he didn't give a shit about Kirk.

I completely disagree with you that what Kimmel said checks those boxes. What he said checks none of them. The first part of Jimmy's statement was true. The right ABSOLUTELY tried to characterize the kid as anything other than one of them. Whether the shooter was right or left, the right absolutely did that.

The next part about how Trump handled it was also absolutely true. All they did was replay Trump's own words back.

So no, none of those terms violated.

First of all, it was well known from the information released to the public that he wasn't maga, you're just being pedantic and trying to use word games to evade.

But dude. It literally doesn't matter what you think. It doesn't matter if you "disagree" with water being wet in this case.

Bob Iger realizes that his comments did check those boxes. That's why Kimmel got suspended. The brass knows he violated the FCC regulations, even though they support kimmel and were trying to get him to mea culpa.

It does. That you are willing to continue insulting people over something that is over and done with years ago shows you are still consumed by your emotions rather than facts and logic. That you are down here today, and never come down here, shows that your emotions overcame you and you wanted to unload something. It's like a yuppie calling a vietnam vet a baby killer in 1977, years after the war ended.

IDK about tigers, but leopards are definitely eating your face lol

I'm totally against Kimmel being cancelling for his anti Trump rhetoric. However I'm completely for Kimmel being cancelling for the sole reason that he absolutely sucks as a late night host.
Exactly.
ABC: "Your fired"
Kimmel: "why!?"
ABC: "You suck, don't read anything else into it"

Brendan Carr is the head of the FCC and was given that position by Trump because he's a Trump loyalist. Just like how Kash Patel is head of the FBI for being a Trump loyalist even though he's incompetent.

Trump loyalist Brendan Carr applied pressure against the network saying they'd face consequences for "misleading" the American people because of Kimmel's remarks against Trump, and the company, not wanting the scrutiny, took preemptive action against Kimmel via suspension.

Of course Trump didn't literally decree that Kimmel be suspended. He expressed dissatisfaction and his loyalist jumped to action.

Are you listening to yourself?

Bob Iger and Disney brass pre-emptively made this decision because they knew Kimmel violated FCC regulations and wanted to limit the damage Kimmel would do to the brand, yes

But Carr didn't "apply pressure" he didn't HAVE to. Because they pre-emptively made the decision to prevent brand damage

Neither did they do that because "trump expressed dissatisfaction."

It wasn't Carr or Trump, you're just making that up in your head canon. It was Sinclair and all of the local stations that LITERALLY DROPPED THE PROGRAM BECAUSE OF WHAT HE SAID.

Sinclair and local stations are who "applied pressure." Carr and Trump are just happy about it because, like most of america, they hate Kimmel

Your repeated use of the term "loyalist" here is cringe worthy.
Why would any president appoint people that they cannot trust?
Are you a "loyalist" to your boss?

Next it will be some magic conspiracy where Sinclair and the local networks refused to air it because Trump is a meany, and not because they would have gotten complaints from half the country, jesus

:ROFLMAO: has it ever been said: "you are in complete opposition to my views and announce that regularly.......you're hired!"

But Kimmel is practically a Johnny Carson level of talent compared to the absolute fake persona, fake laughing hyena that is a Jimmy Fallon. At least with Kimmel I believe that he believes what he says. If any of these late night bozos exemplify the chique elite vacuous Hollywood himbo mentality, it's Fallon. And leaving politics completely aside for a moment, his interviewing style is just a gibbering, fumbling display of embarrassingly extreme levels of celebrity fawning.

So true, cannot watch that guy. Straight from SNL to late night host is no guarantee of quality or success, cannot believe he's still there.

They are both terrible, for sure. It's just that Kimmel let his partisanship get way too close to the legal line this time. Even his ardent supporters among the Disney brass who have said they aren't even mad at him, are trying to shield him from the consequences.

Apparently, if he wasn't canceled, he was going to double down even harder on his "alternative facts" about the shooting. Even after sinclair and all the local stations put their foot down.

They are basically trying to keep him from hanging himself with the FCC rope the Bush and Obama admins created
