Crazy idea, but I would suspect the demographic this guitar is appealing to is the 40s to 50s age bracket fans/ collectors, etc that are established in life and have plenty of disposable income to indulge in a purchase like this. When I was 16 or 17 and saw the original ESP KH-2 in a Musicians Friend catalog, I lusted for that guitar for years. I got a Jackson performer that was black and had a reverse headstock, it was within my budget and looked close enough to satisfy my fan boy urges at the time. Now that I'm older and have more disposable income to make purchases for the fuck of it, I've bought the sig models I wanted and filled that gap that was open since seeing those guitars in a catalog so many years back. I would imagine there's some die hard fans out there that are well to do and this might be that thing thats fulfills that same need or want. Metallica has such a wide appeal to a diverse group of people in all varieties of socioeconomic backgrounds that selling out of these, is likely not going to be a problem.
