Another Reverb Prick - UPDATE: HERE'S HIS FRIVOLOUS CLAIM!

It is pretty obvious you are correct about his motives.

HOWEVER the shipping discrepency is plenty to void the transaction. You said in the "sale contract" it would ship fed ex and then sent it with another courier WITHOUT communication and agreeance prior.

If that had been the only reason he stated I would agree.

Did you sell "as is" or with a return policy? I don't bother with return policies, sales take much longer but weeds much of this out.

There is no shipping discrepancy. He never requested FedEx or even specified any kind of shipping requirement. He complained about that after everything had already been shipped. My policy was "as-is" and no returns.

Oh my God! He did exactly what everyone expected him to do. This is what he sent me a little while ago.

"Hi, the good news is the amp arrived, the bad is that there is not the same loudness or volume a 50w amp is supposed to have. I'm not sure what's wrong with it but I don't see any evidence of any damage as it was packed well, thanks. To be clear, I originally asked if you'd resend with fedex instead and if you didn't or couldn't, THEN send a refund. I never said or demanded a refund because it was shipped UPS instead of fedex but you went all over the place with assumptions that I wanted a refund because it was sent UPS instead of fedex as discussed. That was the cause of frustration.. maybe a communication problem. However, now that it's not apparently working as it should it may be necessary to send back anyway for a full refund, sorry.

WOW, what a dick!

Didn't have the volume of a 50 watt amp, WTF!!?

Ask him how high a 50 watt helios is supposed to play.

He had buyers remorse, he could have been honest but he wasn't, he could have simply rejected the package and UPS would have just returned it to you. He's a dick head. Now that being said, Dick heads like this guy have existed for at least as long as I've been alive (41 years) Sorry you got screwed, but I don't get why shit like this has to turn political, (i.e. our nation is in decline, or liberal thinkers, yada yada) Don't we get enough of that on the daily? As a matter of fact This site has rules against it, and yet I see people still posting political crap. Again sorry you got screwed, but people like this have existed from the beginning of time.

Sorry but everything discussed here has been civil and on-topic. You're the one trying to bring attention to trivial comments and make something out of it that it's not. There's enough drama dealing with deadbeats and cons in the gear trade already, so don't add to it.

Total Douchebaggery on his part! And a 4-5 day business turn-around is INCREDIBLE on your part. Packing up an amp, whilst not the most time consuming thing in the world...it ain't like shipping a pickup, or pedal. Packing it, getting it to the shipper, and having it delivered all within the same business week...pretty damn good turn-around.

Hopefully Reverb will stand your ground and make this right for you. There is NO WAY IN HELL i'd want that amp back at this point. Mf'r is crazy IMO.

BTW...Did he tell you that his hearing isn't the same as yours prior to purchase? He has mislead you in to selling him an amp that you thought he would hear as loudly as you hear it.

But he just says "what a 50 watt amp should be?" What is his reference for this? Now even well packed something could have happened with a tube etc. but it reeks of B.S. it's a shame that the second you get weird or evasive communication from someone it's inevitable the deal will go south. Good luck resolving this.

He won't respond to any messages. Reverb is supposed to be handling it, but they're literally taking no less than 36 hours to respond to anything. This shit could take weeks to get resolved.

Been in the same boat, sorry OP. I prefer to sell here or on other boards where it tends to be more neighborly.

In the old days on Ebay, I would put in my selling ad that low feedback bidders must contact me prior to purchase. Don't know if that even applies here. A couple of items I had on Reverb/Ebay, I set the "accept offers" as a tool to verify the interested party was on the up-and-up. Anything sketchy and I would reject their bid. If someone had low/no feedback and they really wanted something, they'd message me and I would correspond to see what the situation was. That tended to work out ok.

There will always be douches on both sides of a transaction. Nothing new BUT it is worse not than 10-15 years ago. Part of the "business".

I hope things work out for you. Don't flex even a little with this asshat.

That sucks. Reverb's staff is pretty good about handling claims. They are in Chicago, good folks. Now paypal and the douches credit card company is another matter. They will always side with the buyer. Have him ship it back, and it better be in the same condition. Other option, cancel your paypal account and screw him.

The same principal but working from the other direction, there's a guy selling a Rampage I want on eBay right now and his seller feedback is -2. I think I'll let that one go.

I have to laugh at his comment of "it's not as loud as a 50w should be...". If he has low efficiency speakers then the output will be less volume due to that, not the amp. The amp could be fine, but if you go from 100db speakers to 96/97, you're going to lose 15-20% in volume output.

Sorry you're going through this crap, SR.

Make sure the guy turned the loop switch off or has the return volume cranked if loop is on

The 50 watt Helios takes turning on the volume knob to get going
Mostly in 80's mode

I've spotted through this post and feel inclined to add a comment:

After somewhere around 40 excellent Reverb transactions and experiences (seller and buyer); I had one which left a bitter taste in my mouth for the entire process and a recent sale which irreparably changed my Reverb position. I will NOT use their site any longer. Sucks, but that's how it has to be. If I can't buy/sell it locally it ain't worth it.

Hope the OP's issue comes to a proper resolve.
:(

No, actually Reverb attracts a certain group of people because they have not yet clamped down on the necks of their sellers.

No.

Take his address and sign him up for every free mailing magazine/flyer you can find.
It won't help your issue but you'll have a good laugh. My one buddy did that to another buddy as a prank- he had so much mail overstuffing his mailbox every day it was hilarious

Pretty sure at worst you'll get the amp back in your possession before Reverb will refund him. Thats the way they handled a refund I had to give.

Buyer already made a Paypal claim for "not as described."

"This amp was supposed to be a 50 watt amp but it does not put out the power it is supposed to put out.

So he has the test equipment to check wattage ? Doubt it...

Unreal... This bastard spent money he didn't have and is trying to get out of the purchase after you went through the annoyance of packing and shipping the amp to him. I would demand proof from a legit amp tech that the amp does not put out 50 watts and that it is not something simple like a tube or he would get NOTHING from me. Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with that amp and if there is, the guy made a thinly veiled threat to damage it and may have done just that. What a fuckin' nightmare...

As someone who has a business selling amps, I've dealt with some real pieces of work, believe me... it's enough to make you lose your mind...
