My only question is: what keeps you believing???
Serious question. I’ve tried like hell and I just cannot swallow it.

I'm more spirtual than ultra religous at this point though there are, in my opinion, events and meetings in my life that I absolutely have no doubt were of God's hand. I'm not a Church attendee but do not shun those that are. I do feel that this world is regressed into what it is due to people not embracing religion. Yes, it was a control method in a lot of circumstances but as humans have proved, we need a certain level of control because we just cannot count on everybody to do the right thing. That's why politics is the way it is now. It's the new controlling religion. The only problem is that is absolutley does nothing to encourage kindness.

I was a Christian, but not anymore. God, if it/she/he exists, does not give 1 single IOTA of a fuck about anyone on this planet. I call Jesus, the selective savior. "Save some, but not others."
I am saved I guess, but nothing happened. I see others glowing with this Jesus thing, I don't get it. I'm too grounded in the physical for that stuff.

I always ask you what you expected to happen but you never answer me. Did you buy your first guitar and expect to shred on it when you took it out of the case?

Jesus died on the cross to save everyone, but it's not his responsibility TO save everyone. He offered himself as the sacrifice to give everyone the opportunity to enter into Heaven. Jesus said "No one comes to the Father, except through Me" (John 14:6) Meaning that the choice is made by the individual to believe that Jesus is who he said he was, and that he died on the cross to give everyone the opportunity to be saved. I get what what was said about the "glowing with Jesus" thing, believe me.. I do. I have questioned that many times myself because it wasn't like that for me. It's not like that for everyone. I am 100% confident that I am saved, but there was no "ah-hah" moment, no instant transformation, etc. Over time, I have changed from what I once was, to what I am today and my journey is still ongoing and will be until that day that I die. I am far from perfect. But, that's the beauty of it.. I don't have to be perfect, because Jesus was and He took that burden and died on that cross, for me... and you and everyone else. You just have to accept that gift. I fail every day, I mean every day... but being a Christian isn't about being perfect, it's about being forgiven and having a relationship with God/Jesus. Not religion.

Well jeepus, when you put it like that. /s

This is exactly the kind of sentiment that makes me cringe.

Because the story just isn’t believable!
That is where faith enters the chat. I'm going to steal a page out of Phil Robertson's playbook (yes, the duck guy) and use his explanation when people ask him if Jesus was real. It's a very simple concept, but something that really made me think. He'll ask people what year it is. For our example, it's 2025. He'll ask "Is that BC or AD"? It's AD. What does BC and AD mean. BC = Before Christ and AD is Anno Domini (the year of our Lord).. Not after death, as most think (it was actually 33 AD when Jesus died on the cross). That alone implies that something had to have happened 2025 years ago that was so significant that we measure time by it (before the event and after the event).

Faith is irrelevant to whether the story is believable.

I respectfully disagree. Believing in something you can't see is commonly referred to as faith. It would be easy to believe the story if it were happening today, right in front of our eyes. But it isn't. It doesn't mean it didn't happen though, and that is were faith comes in.

Listen, at the end of the day it's not a Christian's job to convince anyone that Jesus is real. Yes, if asked (such as you did in the OP), I'm compelled to speak about my faith. After all, Jesus said "deny me before men, and I will deny you before my Father". But, it's the job of the Holy Spirit to convict. The Great Commission was Jesus' instructions to Christians to "tell the world about Me". God also gave us free will to choose. What you do with that choice is between you and God and one day it's my belief that we will all have to answer for that choice we make. I, for one, believe that Jesus is real and that the Bible is true.

I’m a Christian. I cannot fully explain why I believe. I just do. The more I read his word, the more I believe. His word is perfect. He is perfect. I am one of his sheep because I hear his voice. I am his slave. I owe everything to Jesus Christ because he gave his life as a propitiation for my transgression. I cannot explain it. I just believe and have faith in him.
