Any Jimi/ Trower players here?

I love Trower. My whole heritage in my playing is Trower / Hendrix / Gibbons / Page. My band does at least 4 Trower tunes a night. I love playing his stuff (whether I do it well or not haha). And throw in a heavy does of Frank Marino too for that matter. I guess I am weird - I like the metal era of Gary Moore better than his blues phase. I mean, Still got the blues is a great record but I would rather hear "End of the World" haha.

If any of you guys have a chance to get the live DVD of Frank Marino - it is killer and worth every cent of the $100 price tag. Especially now that he is retired for good......I did see him once in like 2007 or so. He was killer. Not many of those guys left out there
Awesome DVD! Always been a Frank Marino fan. Saw him in '78. Recorded the show too.

Saw him open for someone at the old Boston Garden around the same time.
As far as 70s rock guitar heroes he could go toe to toe with anyone.

It's a shame he never achieved the same popular status as the rest of the guys you noted.

I was a huge Trower fan in the 70's. Hendrix too. I had listened to BOG so many times on 8-track that for years I still 'expected' certain songs to fade out, hear the 'kachunk', then fade back in where ever they changed tracks on the 8-track.

Easy to get lost in a tone like that. (y)
BOG is great. Jimi gets really political.

like this record a lot more as I got older in terms of the tunes and the groove. Definitely a different side of Jimi vs the flashier earlier years. I know - old news :)

As always, very nice playing, Carl. You got that style down pat ! It's the fingers, not the gear. Nice pedalboard though. Good to see you back in here BTW.

I saw Mahogany Rush live in about 1978 in Montreal . Was always a huge fan of Marino (and of course the other guys on this thread.. duh, I'm old and play guitar. .ha . . WELL then many years went by and I got Frank Marino/Mahogany Rush tix for a local bar show here in VT.. Dammit he cancelled it. . . Then many years went by again and I got more Frank Marino/Mahogany Rush tix for a local bar show in New Hampshire this time. . COVID 19 cancelled it and rescheduled it for this month , and now HE RETIRED! Pretty bummed but I'm one of the lucky ones to have seen him in his prime for sure

Eric B! I know you from way way back. Hope all is well. Yes, Frank has some kind of medical issue so he's retired.

I've been thru many fuzzes. For me, the Roger Mayer Visage Fuzz. 45 variations of Jimi live and studio tones.......and I got the 4 different EH Big Muff variations. I got a big board, but no fuzz on it.

I've been on that Shiftee waiting list forever it seems. I don't think that he's producing any more.

Hey Carl, did you ever play a Classic Amplification Classic Vibe or Vibe Baby? He looks like he's the guy to go to if you need a repair done on an original. He works on Randy Hansen's vibes. https://classicamplification.net/svc/uvsvc.html

Yeah, I had the Vibe Baby many years ago. It was very good from what I recall.
The Shiftee I lucked out on. He sent me one of the first he made to make a demo of, then let me have it for his cost!! I had the big Unique Vibe before that, w/ the carrying case, and it was great but too big.

I had the Shin Ei Vibe Bro. Great. My favorite, besides the Shiftee is the Sabbadius Funky Vibe. I had the Fillmore East version and stupidly sold it....but, he made a run of 50 Mastermind Funky Vibes and I'm getting one soon. His fuzzes are very good too. The guy has an ear for the Jimi effects.

First time I saw Trower he opened for John McLaughlin and Jeff Beck Headlined. Wired tour. Trower came out in all white and played his ass off. Hendrix BOG at Winterland is the best live record ever recorded. Nothing close IMHO.

For a couple of years my band would open with "Day of the Eagle", it sets the mood. Now we open with "Heaven and Hell" straight into "The Hellion/Electric Eye". Sets the mood.

It was Paul Gilbert on a rig rundown talking about JHS pedals that got me into listening to Trower. He mentioned Bridge of Sighs.

Also, check out Trower's rig rundown.

@CarlF

If you have any experience with it, how would you rate the vibe in the Foxrox CC2 among the others (Shiftee, CV-2, Funky Vibe, Deja Vibe etc.) ? Is it up to par ?

Dave Fox makes a great Vibe. I had a few Captain Coconuts and his Aqua-Vibes. It's hard comparing or claiming which is best because not everybody is looking for or hearing the same thing. My criteria is if it reminds me of my old Univox Univibes (had 3)
