Picked up a Peavey Windsor a couple of weeks ago and I must say I am really digging this amp. I mean it is not the end all/be all of amps by any means but for those who are looking for a great rock and roll amp on a budget I think it fits the bill nicely. I am happy with my purchase for the time being.

Anybody else out there like the Windosr!

I'm not a big fan of the amp stock, but a modded Windsor can kick some serious ass. I just finished one up. Every time I work on one of these I like them more.

Hey Jerry,

I have a NOS Mullard ECC81, a Phillips JAN 12AT7WC, and an old Sylvania 12AX7. Would any of these make much of a difference?

They're fine as long as they are kept the hell away from the matching cab. The sound of the cab makes me feel so impressed, I could commit genocide.

And just try those tubes yourself, goofball.

Haven't had the chance to try one yet, but the specs look good.

I've heard nothing but good things about them, and that with a little time with Jerry P, they sound even better

The cab I have it going through is a new Lopoline Signature series 2x12 with the warehouse guitar speakers vintage 30 clones. They are still a little stiff but don't sound too bad. I think they will only get better as they break in a bit.

I may try one of the 12AT7's tonight at band practice and see how it sounds. I also think I may bring my Randall RG80PH and do a head to head comparison ;). I had traded my old Peavey Heritage VTX even up for the Randall at a pawn shop a while back. I am pretty sure the Heritage is still there so I have been thinking about trying to trade the Randall back. Then I could use the Peavey for clean and light overdrive and the Windsor for the heavier stuff. It's a Peavey nation don't you know!

I tried one up and GC and it actually sounded pretty damn good. Granted it was running through a Peavey cab (no, not the matching one) but it a single channel and I'm finding single channels and my band don't get along.

The cab makes you feel so IMPRESSED? I bet you meant DEPRESSED, didn't ya? lol...

I think the stock Peavey Windsor is a very capable amp. Not the best amp in the world, but very, very capable of getting great tones. I had one for a few days and took it back, but not because it sounded like crap. It was an impulse buy and I didn't need it.

But yeah, not bad sounding at all in my opinion.

I agree, there are better sounding amps but for the price, I got mine slightly used on ebay BTW, which is an even better deal , they really do a great job of getting the classic EL34 grind that I have been looking for. I really liked the Stage 1 Stilletto for example and also the CAE OD-100 and they are very much superior to the Windsor but the Windsor does a better job than any modeling amp in it's price range of getting that tone. I can't get it from my Rocktron Chameleon/Peavey Classic 120 rig.
