Any midi users here?

Several of the controllers I have used lately are specific to the device (Fractal stuff), however, I always keep a Voodoo Labs Ground Control Pro around for quick midi set-ups for the non-Fractal gear.

They have excellent tech support and will go out of their way to make sure you get your stuff set up correctly (and this help is for anyone buying their stuff used or new).

It would be pretty easy to get the KSR ES5 synced up with it then use them to control the Orion plus additional equipment.

Tried that about 3-4 years ago.
The only thing I couldn't get on with was the chorus.
The delays and verbs were glorious though.
This is the new one—new algorithms, all included, 2 algorithms at once and unlimited footswitching options. I use it for stuff like Fool in the Rain solo and Nobody’s Fault flanger but I don’t scratch the surface of the thing. I had the old H9 and while the fx were fantastic (Eventide duh) the pedal itself was a strange design and not gig friendly. You could run your whole rig through this one.

So what is the difference between ES-5 and the ES-8
5 switches vs 8, and the 8 has a number of advancements to it - movable loop, buffer on/off, obviously more ports, I'm just rigging up a new board design with one and I honestly think with the loop and the master ins/outs it's more like a 10 port switch if one were to program it as such. But bottom line - it's got more of everything and more programmability/customization.

So I'm thinking my pedalboard would be an H9 or H90, duality DX Midi, and EX5, wah and tuner. then the Midi controller. I have a pedal train pedalboard but I want to swap that out for a temple audio board so I can take advantage of the modules. Seems like this would take care of two big issues I have 1 being having a messy board, and 2 eliminate the tap dancing.

I don’t know anything about those. I have the Voodoo labs control one and the px8. Wondering if the GCX is better or exactly the same as px8 just floor vs rack. Anyone?

Midi is easy once you get the hang of it. Here’s a simple routing that should be easy for you to follow….

I'm slowly working towards MIDI-fying my rig and the ES-8 seems like the bees knees.

I swear it wasn't supposed to be like this.... I used to use Amplitube software exclusively and got a MIDI footswitch to run it. Then I decided I wanted to get away from digital stuff and broach the analog world. Tube amp, real pedals, etc.

Got the tube amp, got the pedals, but there are still MIDI functions I miss. The simplest benefit is tapdance elimination. A simple bypass loop switcher should solve it right?

Problem was, I was running my tube amp through a Suhr RL into Amplitube for cab sims and post-FX. Even though my amp and pedals were 100% analog, I was still tied to a computer. So my solution was, get a Boss IR-200 for IR emulation, and buy even more pedals to replicate the post-FX.

Well the unforeseen side-effect was the amp sims on the IR-200, which I had no intention of using outside of basic clean tones for my preamp pedals (Boss MT-2 and Catalinbread Sabbra Cadabra), sound really good, good enough to bypass the tube amp. It's just too convenient having the complete amp setup on the board.

As for the post-FX, I bought a Boss PS-6 and a Boss DD-7 to run in the loop of the IR-200 to get me detune and some delay. Then the SDE-3000D was announced and I bought that to replace to DD-7, and it all sounds really fucking good together.

But now I've got two programmable pedals on my board, and tap dancing sucks, and I know that I could use MIDI to control both pedals remotely. That gets me looking at the Boss ES-8, which would let me control all of my analog pedals and my new digital pedals with a single footswitch. The only exclusion is the PS-6.... but wait, the MD-500 has the same Detune effect, and other sweet effects that I want and don't have, like the Dimension D. And the MD-500 is MIDI controllable. But my brand new pedalboard isn't big enough to hold all this stuff, so I need to buy an even bigger board....

So right now I'm sitting here looking to get an MD-500, an ES-8 and a Pedaltrain XD24, and I have the sinking suspicion I'll end up right where I started eventually.
