I've been battling some neck issues over the past year and I'm convinced it has something to do with playing heavy guitars over the past 21 years. I didn't really make the connection until I had to go out of town for a week and didn't touch a guitar the whole time. Near the end of the week my issues almost went away completely. Of course when I got back and started playing again, they soon returned.

I've been looking at these Slinger Straps and wonder if anyone here has real world experience? They make 3 different types, which all seem like they could help. The one near the top of the page essentially hooks the guitar to your waist without going over your shoulder. Seems like a good idea, but it requires drilling your guitar for a new peg on the bottom horn. It also might look silly not being able to see a strap.

The next one goes around your waist AND your shoulder, putting only partial weight on the shoulder, and requiring no drilling. Maybe this would be better? To the audience it would look like a normal strap.

They make a 3rd one that goes around your waist and BOTH shoulders. This may be the best idea, but again may look silly.

Thoughts?

I don't like that you have to add a second strap button on the lower horn, resale value dinged.

But can you get that Jimmy Page down on the thigh look

Only on the strapless kind. I don't think I would do that either. I'm leaning more toward the single or double strap kind. Both still go around your waist and supposedly puts a lot of the weight on your hips, but they still go over your shoulder(s) and don't require any guitar modification.

looks a bit silly imo

excuse my ignorance but have you tried those big cushion-esque straps like

http://www.comfortstrapp.com/ ??

I have one and can't play any guitar without! Reduces the weight quite a bit.

I actually do have one of those. It is very comfortable just because its real soft and squishy, but it doesn't reduce the weight on your shoulder.

The slinger may look silly, but I gotta try something. It would look sillier to be sitting down playing at every gig.
