Anyone compare a 50 and 100 watt ?

Any takers? I've asked this before too. I don't need 100 watts if I can get the same tone with 50 and save a few hundred dollars.

I had the 100 watt, played in 50 watt mode(reduces to 2 tubes). It's just loud as hell. I now own the 50 w head and it sounds great, same as I remember the 100 sounding.

I'd rock an Archon. It sounds pretty good to me. Just wish it had a few more features like a line out. And resonance control.

Love mine. Got 7 amps at the moment but pretty much only play the Archon the last 6 months.

They have a Depth control next to the Presence.

I've been waffling over a JP2C and a 20th Anni Shiva but maybe an Archon would fit the bill and at close to half the cost.

I had a Mark V 25, 5153 50 watt head, and archon 100 all at the same time.

The Mark V was good, but it wasn't as fun to play as the 5153, or Archon.
The 5153 was a beast, I had it for quite a few years, nice and defined as long as the gain isn't cranked too high
The Archon has as much definition as either of the other two, but has a fatness to it that I have never heard in an amp with so much definition.

The Archon was the clear winner to me, but the 100 was overkill. I sold everything, bought an Archon 25 combo, put in an EVH greenback, and now I have IMO the best high gain home practice amp. The cleans are awesome too!!
