This could very well be my next purchase...I've already used the search feature and found pretty good info, but I wanted to kinda get some "updated" opinions possibly.

Debating between 18 or 30 watts...playing live, I mic up all the time...at home, I need fairly quiet most of the time.

Let me know!

Listen to The Aristocrats new (first) record! Guthrie has been playing the Badger for awhile now, and used it a lot in the studio I've read.

Got myself a Badger 18 head. Never had it out to a gig, but it definitely pushes enough for any club gig IMO.

I have run it through a 4x12 and it sounds HUGE! Takes pedals nicely as well.

Good luck with your purchase...

I'm kinda leaning towards the 30, mainly because it has power scaling. Therefore, if I need it to be loud, it can handle that a little better than the 18, but it can also get quiet if I need.

I had the 30 combo. Cool amp. GREAT clean and light gain sounds. It's a very cutting amp, at med to high gain it was harsh. I think it works best clean/low gain and then pushed with pedals for anything beyond that. The power scaling works great, as does the master volume.

I was planning on running it at the verge of break up, then having a med gain, and a high gain pedal to stack on top if I needed more gain...you're saying that the Badger's preamp gain was harsh at high gain levels? Right? Cause that wouldn't be an issue.

Yes that's what I was trying to say. It works real well in that application IMO.

I owned the 18W head, great amp. I would personally get the 30W if you're gigging, but since you are mic'd all the time anyway, I think you could get away with the 18W IMO. I really liked the EL84 tubes pushed, but I would really like to hear what EL34 sound like in it. The power scaling worked excellent too, very responsive to the guitar volume knob, a real fun amp to play.
