Wondering if anybody here has ever tried this Seymour Duncan pickup booster pedal?

Looks like a totally transparent, clean boost that might be helpful if you are looking for no added "color' to your tone. Any thoughts?

If you want something transparent, there's tons of options on the market. I used to have the old red version but "transparency" is not what I used it for, but it does a decent job at thickening up single coils and kicking the front end a tad. I eventually found an EQ works even better and has more utility. Generally though, a clean boost in front of a modern amp is pointless unless it has some sort of EQ control, and if you're using it in a loop as a volume boost, you might want to look into something like the CAE/MXR boosts instead, which are actually designed to be transparent and a bit cheaper. Then again an EQ pedals works even better there if you want to dial in some extra mids or cream out the low-end a bit. I say pass on this pedal unless you want to do the faux humbucker thing, outside of that its not particularly remarkable.

As above. I have 2 eq’s. Both a bit different in settings depending on the tone I want. But it will boost nicely.

I tried it and really didn't care for it. Maybe it could be good for single coils, but that's just a guess????

I recently picked up the MXR Duke of Tone Pedal. I like the pedal a lot.

no, but I often use an EQ pedal, current fav is Source Audio EQ2 (chose over the Boss EQ-200 for size), but the MXR 10-band EQ with Vol and Gain is a great boost IMO. EQ makes a great transparent boost if you leave the EQ flat IMO

I am very intrigued. I love my pickup. I will buy this bastard if it tightens the amp like a ts

It doesn’t do that at all. It’s just a full range boost like a Micro Amp, it will actually make things muddier. The switch has a nest trick of doing some sort of EQ that changes the perceived resonant peak of a pickup and making single coils sound more like humbuckers. That’s what this pedal is intended to do.

Thanks for clearing that up. Sounds like it would be useful for maybe a soapbox or something if you have a les paul jr

That's strange. From the few videos I watched it seems like with the switch in neutral mode it made the amp slightly, tighter, brighter and a bit more attack.

For that type thing I like the vfe focus because you can filter the top and bottom to taste and then compensate output with the level, and it has tons of output on hand if you want to slam the amp. It's just a matter of playing around with the level and how it interacts with the degree of filtering applied.

or just get an EQ pedal.

Thank you. I will give that a look. I was also considering the Fortin 33 along with the SD pickup booster based on it's simplicity, but it seems to really trim the low end fairly dramatically (based on the videos I've watched) and add a little too much "clank" to the palm mutes.

I think your best bet is an EQ pedal...a good one. Most clean boosts impart a thickening effect up past a certain point and I find it can bloat the tone a bit. Makes sense, you are increasing the signal and slamming whatever you are running into. EQ at least will allow you to cut some bass and mids. Will feel and sound more transparent and just " more".

The Friedman Buxom boost is a clean boost with the option of using the EQ or removing it. It's one of my favorite boosts.

Yes, it does.

Try the Dirty Tree, then. That one is basically the same circuit, but you can control how much you cut the bass and boost the treble.

A lot of the LA fusion guys have had the Xotic RC boost on their boards forever.
