What were your thought comparing the two? I'm interested in both. Have not found a Goldfinger locally, going to try the RA next week. The clips of the Goldfinger sound killer and I feel compelled to check out the RA 100. I want something that the wattage can be dropped down to make it reasonable for smaller gigs. I have a Mk IV that I am using in Tweed mode and it works pretty well but I would like to try something new.

I guess that all depends upon what you're looking for. I've played both and would take the RA over the Goldfinger anyday. The cleans are great on both but I wasn't overly impressed with the gain channel on the Goldfinger. It will do some cool 80's tones but I think the RA's more versitle.

Thanks that's kind of what i was thinking. I would like to find a Goldfinger to try out. I was wondering if it had enough gain.

Those are pretty much the two best amps to come out in a while. I've gotten the chance to play both and they are both epic in their own right. The GF can get modern sounding but you have to tweak the gain EQ to get it. The HI mode on the RA is very saturated and can go where the GF can't. The cleans on both are unreal and both have really good onboard reverb. The GF has definitely got its own sound and feel but the RA has more features and a simpler layout. It all comes down to this: if you want classic rock tones-- goldfinger has a real classic mojo that just can not be touched. If you want harder rock or metal-- the RA will be more your cup o' tea. Also, the attenuator on the RA will allow you to drive the clean or LO mode like you would an old non master amp and that gives you another palette of tones that you can't get on the GF. Oh, and the RA is cheaper.

I played a RA with a few different cabs and just didn't bond with it. Didn't dislike it but it didn't blow me away. (It was at GC so bad/worn tubes could have been to blame)
I like my Mark IV much, much more. Never played a Goldfinger but I liked the Bogners I have played a lot more than the RA. Now the Mesa Electra-Dyne, that's another story. Loved it!

I have a love/hate relationship with the Mark IV, It sounds good and I like the 3 channels for the cover band thing but it has a "standard" rock/metal sound to me if you know what I mean. I'm looking for something a little more distinct sounding.

I recently plugged into a RA-100 through a Bogner 2x12 oversize can and could not get it to sound good at all. Was running the amp at a full 100w w/o using the power soak. Clean sounded ok, low gain ok, hi-gain sounded terribly, very lifeless and muddy.

I have played a Goldfinger 45 and owned a GF-90. Both of those are incredible. GF-45 and GF-90 can scale down with 1/2 power switched on front and back (so you get 4 different power modes...make sure you reduce impedance for proper Ohm rating with cab though). GF-90 gets a great brown sound gain thing going very good personality to the amp, same with GF-45. Boost it with the footswitch that adds a bump to both clean and/or dirty channel.

BTW - clean channel on Goldfinger's are superb...one of the best clean channels I've heard in a while. I currently play a PT-100 and of course that clean channel is fantastic.

I have never tried either, but as a fellow mark IV owner, I am interested to see which one you end up with.
