I knew of some German bands using the Ultra-G live instead of microphones. They connected it between the amps and the cabinet and then straight to the mixer.

Recording will be a matter of taste like any other speaker simulator. Probably good for demos or fast clips but maybe "not good enough" for serious stuff.
