I just don't get it.No disrespect to anyone who plays likes or binds with the 5153. I tried the 2x12 combo, the 50 watt head, the S100 signature 6l6 head. I just watched the video posted with this thread with the demo.I just figured out why I didn't like the amps. The tone stack is not desire able to my ears. All the gain, channels ,compression ,presence, resonance is great to have but I just can not for the life of me understand the lack of substance and tone with this amp line.I do understand the very user friendly price tag that gets you into a great amplifier. That being said I do not understand the innovative genious of EVH bringing the world of guitar to its knees with the sounds of VH, thru Fair Warning. These amps do a very bad job of representing his sound and his work. I find it very disappointing he has no interest in having a very articulate sounding amp in his design. Sorry if I offend anyone please take it easy with the insults if so. I just find it pathetic with the amp builders of today and mod specialist this is what we get from probably the biggest revelation on the guitar I will see in my lifetime.Cheers,
I am as well saying I have seen EVH involve himself with peavey and fender and offer us amps and other cool stuff.Would be cool if he would try it with ohh say Marshall, Boogie,Friedman,Diezel,,Bogner,Friedman...etc etc...sorry if I left anyone out. And for the tone remarks about it being in your fingers, have him play eruption thru SRV s rig..Good luck with that..and also check the video out where he starts to play *women in love* the Smithsonian inductee video* and he says** I don't have the effects for this and he doesn't play it...meaning compression I'd guess....things contribute to one's style of playing that further introduce individual tone. Thanks

actually, the Women in Love intro very specifically has dual ping-pong delays and really only sounds right with the delays on and at the right temp

Actually he played live on tour when it was released as well as many other times I'd imagine..thanks

The 5153S el34 is a great amp..I had a 6l6 100s and wanted something else.they are great amps, I just wanted something else.Next

I'd figure just for the money sake they'd come out with a single channel "clone" of his old Marshall. Hand wire it, slap an EVH badge on it and charge $3k ;)

Exactly! If tone is in the fingers, why did Eddie insist on using his magic Marshall for so many years? He probably has 50 Marshall's… just grab anyone of them, if the tone is in your fingers? ... Or an old Fender Twin,
Eddie showed up at Steve's music in Toronto in June 1979 when they were playing at Mapleleaf Gardens… Of course everyone wanted to hear him play. Steve's music did not carry Marshall amplifiers
at that time… so, he played through an old used fender full blast and mentioned numerous times that he was sorry as he 'couldn't get his tone' out of this amplifier… But obviously, he still sounded like Eddie Van Halen!

Yeah, he still sounded like Eddie Van Halen, just a not as good sounding, frustrated as hell with the tone he was getting EVH. :D

From a business and amp building standpoint, easier to create an EL34 amp based on the 6L6 version rather than creating a whole new thing.

They might do well with this amp, but a more Marshall-sounding EL34 platform that really nails the old Brown Sound would absolutely sell faster than they could build them. Furthermore, Fender has the resources to crank these things out faster and a lot cheaper than Friedman, Splawn, Suhr or any of the other VH-clone, smaller builders. Not writing this one off yet, but it looks like a missed opportunity. Add to that the likelihood than EVH is done touring, and I really wonder who's gonna make this amp move off the shelves.

The price on these is rediculousness, for no other reason than people are stupid enough to pay it. I'll take my Splawn that I bought used for 1/3 less that I'm confident kicks the shit out of this new hype machine.

Meh, I don't care about the price. I never buy anything new. I got my first EVH 100w for $1050 used and my second one for $900 used. Got my Stealth for free courtesy of FedEx. Got my two 50w's for $700 and sold them both for what I paid for them.

Don't understand why Fender never makes the 100 watters midi compatible

Thanks for the link Alex. Sounds okay to me. I just don't care for the cab. Don't like those EVH celestions, just a bit muffled and weird for my ear. I know a lot of guys like them, that's fine too. I bet though plugging this amp into a 1960BX would sound awesome...

I don't think that they are supposed to be representing his classic tone, but more of the modern sound that he has done.

Again, this amp imo, sounds better than the rest of the 5153 series that has been out since 07.

I guess my ears gravitate more towards the 34's, but it doesn't sound bad at all.

Sounds pretty good! There is a tad too much presence and not enough low end IMO in the vid but just nitpicking.

Definitely sounds better, not many chords played, 3 lead channels. Well 2 he play a small passage on the clean channel. Great player I must add
