I played one today and really liked it. I noticed that it started to lose a lot of definition as i turned it up to gigging volume. I mean, it still sounded gnarly it just wasn't as crisp and it seemed like the lows were getting lost no matter how I eq'd it. Has anyone gigged with this amp? would a boost help? i really love the way it sounds with the volume at 3 or lower on the dial but i need it to be louder if i'm going to actually use it. I played it through a boogie 4x12. perhaps a different cab/speaker pairing would be better? any opinions would be appreciated.

I had one. Thinned out cranked way up. I tried to use it and like it but with the band it never worked. Didn't have much character. :aww:

Thanks for the response. I can't imagine how stupid loud it can get. Putting it around 4 on the dial which is like just past 9 o'clock was already very loud. It sounds so good at lower volumes though.

I've used the Astroverb combo for a couple of gigs. I was hired in for lead work, with a little rhythm in-between. Both the band and I thought it was incredible (really one of the best tones I've ever had) with the Gain and Master up around 8. It was VERY articulate and singing something incredible. By itself, I'm not sure if it could have filled things out...open back 1x12. But for a lead-only amp, I couldn't ask for anything more. I remember how the sound guy at a festival looked at me funny when he heard how loud this little combo was. I told him to back the mic off and deal with it. I'm a little baffled when I hear that the Astroverb lost definition. It, and the SLO, are the 2 amps I would say NEVER lose definition for me.

Weird. It was a used amp. Perhaps it was the tubes or maybe the cab. I only played it at lower volumes with the matching 1x12 cab. I cranked it up with a 4x12. That could be the problem. I'll check it out again with another cab.
