Anyone here have a safe or safe room/closet for their gear?

I bought a house in a sort of questionable area and am in the process of remodeling and moving in right now. I have a small bedroom that will be used for my gear room. I have been kicking around some ideas on how to make it more secure. I have thought about toughening up the closet with plywood instead of drywall, using an exterior door or maybe even buying a large gun safe and stuffing a bunch of guitars in it. If anyone has done anything like this it would be cool to see it or hear what you did.

No safe room, but not too worried about anyone coming around....

Wouldn't it be much more handy to make the room safe rather than have a safe?

I mean you could leave your gear hooked up and then lock the room. Security lock with a metal door and special hinges etc ...

Problem in the US might be that most houses are built very weak and with an Axe you could make a hole next to the door in 5 minutes

You need to go thru bricks and three ply wood walls, all steel doors, six dead bolts on each of the three doors to get in. No windows, 6 foot fence and 5 pitbulls in the yard to get in. Video surveillance.

..... and my friend who I think is a little crazy to get into his studio where most my gear is. Did I say any thing about his gun collection and how he made money for years by beating up people for "uncollected debts". Like his father before him. .... something to do with gambling, I think ?

What he trained the dogs to do I think would be considered sexual assault.

Just get a decent alarm and get good insurance from a company like Heritage Ins (pm me if you want info) I am insured here at home for all my amps and studio gear to the tune of $100K and it costs $600 a yr. Insurance = peace of mind.
Incidently....they are also used to insuring vintage and collectable gear.

I have homeowners insurance, alarm system, two German Shepards, and an attack Chihuahua

Im covered

We have stickers on our doors that say "All intruders will be shot onsight - no questions asked - no explanations accepted - no second chances" It has worked so far     We also have a collie who hears everything in a 80 ft circle outside ;) Dogs are fantastic security systems

I think I might do something like this, line the inside with plywood and put a heavy door with deadbolt.

Top left to right fender, fender, Gibson, Gibson, Gibson, Gibson
Bottom One in front- fender. Left to right fender, fender, fender, fender, gibson, fender? paypal is ok.

Yeah it would but it would either be much less effective or WAY more expensive. In a regular new house you could get through an interior wall with your fist.

Yeah, I was thinking about putting up a sign similar to that. I still need some extra security for the illiterate MFers around here.

I am not as worried about when I am home as when I am gone. I am going to get a security system but that would still make me nervous about a smash and grab so I want something to atleast slow them down. I don't really have time to train a dog.

Bottom One in front- Kramer. Left to right fender, fender, fender, gretsch, gibson, PRS?

I turned the single car garage (really to small for a large car) in to my cave. Raised the floor 2x12 constuction,R33 insulation,5/8 T/G plywood, carpet. Has a steel door with a dead bolt and the garage door is for looks and wont open. Have my big flat screen on the wall, theatre system and new sofa. Gun safe and fridge with heating and AC. :D

Everyone in the area knows I would shoot first and have a few friends in the SWAT team and police dept. Its nice being a contractor and working for t law enforcment at a very affordable price, might not make much but the perks are great.

If I was gonna go that route, I would probably get a junkyard cat like agent Jack Bauer.

1500 dollars to replace your door with a faux vault door meaning it looks like a normal door, there is a company in the east bay that makes them I will see if I can look up the info if your interested

Tear out the sheet rock and put unsecured wire mesh in between the studs with a few strips of insulation. That way if some try's to cut through with a swazall they cant because the reciprocating blade gets caught in the unsecured wire mesh. This and plywood with sheetrock on both sides will keep about 99% of people out.

I got more tips if you want to get crazy.

You have to secure the ceiling and the floor as well.

lots of dead bolts, security system on the room, MDF door with reinforced expanding inserts for the screws/hinges, and motion lights outside the house.

the extremely nice gun collection helps, and so does the giant NHRA sticker on the back of my truck. people know we wont play around.

one thing is for sure, you have less to worry about if you keep what you have on the DL. the less people know, the better.

That's what I am talking about. :D

I thought about using steel panels but figured it would be too expensive but mesh is a really cool idea. Browning makes a door like that I think it is about 2500 but i couldn't figure out a way to secure the rest of the room to make it worth while. Floor is concrete slab so I would say it is pretty secure. I figured I would have to put atleast ply over the top too. I am all ears to this stuff if you have any other ideas.
