Anyone here prefer a fixed bridge?

I used to have some Charvels and Jacksons with Floyd's, but I only have fixed bridges now. I've gotten used to having no movement in anything, and prefer it

If you never use it ..... I would look for something without. I see you with a Explorer.

I had 3 Explorers thru the years.
My fave was one that belonged to Mathias Jabbs of the Scorpions.
Had it confirmed thru Gibson.
It was beat to shit....yellowed....but sounded great! ;)

Sold it for $2500 back in 97.

My favorite trem guitar is my Cantrell signature G&L Rampage. The Kahler trem is the best, stays in tune and isn't a bastard to tune. And, the fine tuners have a lot of travel in them so it can take a lot of stretch and still fine tune. I can easily play with the hand resting on it and even give it a wiggle sometime for some trem effect.

Steve

I like the Kahler better myself. I have a few that are 20 years old that are not on a guitar right now.

Exactly what I was doing for years...every guitar had a Floyd and I rarely (almost never) used the bar! They still serve a purpose though...the 2 builds I'm currently working on are both gonna be Floyded.

I don't, and probably wont, own a guitar with a trem. I just don't get along with them. There are times were I'm writing something and I think "it would be cool if I had a trem for this part." Then I remember the fun I've had setting up and re-stringing trem-equipped guitars, and come to my senses.

So how the hell did Dime stay in tune after such crazy whammy abuse onstage? When I saw Pantera/Damageplan live he just killed it and at one point at the Pantera show, he held his guitar up in the air by the bar and gave it a hell of a shake! :scared: Brought it back down and locked into a groove riff and was perfectly in tune!?

If I tried that, I'd be so concerned about the tuning that even if it was in tune, I'd be so distracted wondering if it was I'd screw the riff up....Dimebag had secret powers

That was because of Grady his tech.

yup. i dont get along with tremolos. Maybe cuz im a shitty guitar player

i hate fixed bridges. every time i see a wolfgang with a stoptail i cringe

i much prefer a floyd rose. every guitar i own has one.

i have such an insane vibrato being left handed on a right hand guitar that i knock stop tail guitars out of tune.

so any stop tail i would ever own would have to have locking tuners - most do not come with them.

the only stop tail guitar that i would ever consider purchasing, is a PGM301.

i have adapted so many floyd rose tricks and vibrato taste from them into my playing that i find myself grabbing for the bar on stop tails only to find out it is not a floyd rose equipped guitar.

FWIW my very first guitar was a stop tail schecter. i traded it for a POS used ibanez with a trem, learned how to set them up by trial and error - and now there is no turning back.

i plan on every guitar having one including the 7 string's.

plus stop tails have always reminded me of les pauls.......i hate les pauls

I love floyds. And I never go out of tune. I use fairly heavy strings. And I abuse the shit out of it. But I just got my first Les Paul, and it rocks. So both for me. But obviously there are just songs I couldn't play without the floyd.

My new/only nonFloyd:

A while back I loved floyds, but never really used it to it's full potential, I then got pissed off with the endless tweaking to get it right after string changes, Since then I've been playing fixed bridge guitars for the past few years and can say *hand on heart I will not go back, I found "my" guitar in the form of hardtailed strats, they just fit like a nice pair of gloves.

I really don't like Floyds and when i played out i was never 100% comfy with them. Break a string live and you're fucked. PLus, whenever i hear people play around with the whammy bar it sounds extremely cheesy to me.

Can't stand the things. Detest them. Don't like the way they feel at all.

I truly hate floyds but I do like a decked "vintage" style trem that doesn't pull up on bends but can dive if you want it to for subtle vibrato.

I just think its hard to do anything that has not already been done to death on a Floyd ;)

I put a tremol-no in my main Ibanez. Love it. Bought a second one for another guitar. Best of both worlds.

Never trusted a FR and I never will. I can't even rest my hand on it without it going out of pitch, just too damn uncomfortable.

I have a few with Floyd's but without a doubt I prefer stop bar tailpiece. My few Floyd guitars came with them, like my Charvel,I can't find any other bridge to replace it,I've been looking long and hard. My RR-1 has a Floyd, and my Anderson has a Kahler, but that's the only guitar I ordered with one.
