Charvel won't have Stainless Frets. Big difference in feel
I've had guitars with both and if I was blindfolded, no way I could tell the difference. I don't see how I could, but I'll take your word that you can...

Steve

I can feel a difference, bends and vibrato are way smoother on stainless steel frets for me.
I'll take your word on this, but I don't notice bends or vibrator being any smoother with stainless frets.

Steve

Well, you are definitely in the minority.

You feel completely the opposite how? That Charvel is so good that they ruined Anderson and Suhr for you?
Yes. Charvel Custom Shop guitars, for ME, blow away Anderson and Suhr guitar. YMMV...

Steve

For me: SUHR------>Anderson-------------------------->A lot of different brands--------------->First Act---->Charvel Custom Shop
Yeah.......ok

How would you know? Have you performed blindfolded tests with hundreds of guitarists?

  First act. Wow. Someone's butthurt over the mere insinuation that another guitar is preferred over the 6K Suhr that he hangs on his wall like a trophy.
Uh oh.

Well, the OP was if a USA Charvel can be set-up as good as a Suhr or Anderson. Fret type does not come into play in terms of setting up a guitar.
I can set up any Strat as good as a Suhr or TA. I've owned MULTIPLE Suhrs and TA's.

Thats the first thing I noticed after getting my wolfgang refretted with SS wire. Very smooth bends with little to no drag. I will say that not all NS wire is created equal. Current Dunlop wire seems to be soft as hell. My wolfgangs (2003) and Jackson (2009) all needed to be refretted within 4 years of use. My old Hamer's, Washburn N4, and Kramer Stagemaster from the mid 80's to '91 have been played for decades and barely need a dressing... The only difference I feel is the drag on the frets. New NS wire wears out FAST!!!
The wolf's have five years on the SS wire and theres no fretwear at all!!! Love it!!!

I can definitely feel a difference, and I like it. I can also hear a difference that I do NOT like. There's a bright, snappy tone to them that I hear and don't dig. I can hear the frets, and I don't want to hear the fucking frets. I wanna hear the wood.

You have good points here. I haven't worn out the frets in my 80s guitars but I've had an 08 refretted because I went through them within 4 years. I mean they were gone. I have not played many SS fret guitars but, I think I would have a difficult time picking out the SS ones versus the regular ones. I brought up the first act originally as a joke which 99.9% of you got. To say first act is better than Charvel custom shop is ridiculous. I would put my guitars or any of Racerxrated's guitars against most anything. Personal preference or not, anyone who knows guitars would agree they are really, really great guitars even if they aren't your thing. That's like saying a yugo is better than a Rolls Royce.

I must be really off when comparing guitars. I don't notice a lot of the things some of you are talking about here. I am just not that good at that type of thing with more granular details. I am a die hard Anderson player but I don't tout it as better than another brand. I say play what you like no matter what the cost. Why do I have 6 Andersons? Because I found a neck carve that works really well with my hands and I like the fretwork. I'm at a point in my life where I can comfortably afford to pay for those features that help my hands do what I want on a guitar. Simple as that. Doesn't mean it is better than a CS Charvel, CS Fender, etc.

To answer the OP's question...you can easily setup a Charvel to play like a an Anderson or Suhr. You can also setup an Anderson or Suhr to play like a Charvel. See what I did there?

what type of Stainless is used for frets? A lot of people think stainless is monolithic but there are literally hundreds of types of Stainless steel.

What is spent on a guitar can have something to do with the setup but it all comes down to one's hands and what feels right for the individual; there is no perfect guitar...it's all subjective. Yes the amount of money can have something to do with the fit finish etc but there are so many cheap guitars that kick ass nowadays it's amazing....to each his own...
