I just had to sell a 2x12 that was used for my wet effects...

I eventually want a clean amp w/ speaker
+
dist amp with speaker
+
speaker for wet effects

instead of 3 speakers
I want to try just 2 4x12's
one of them being split stereo
1 side clean amp other side wet effects for dist and clean

anyone ever try something like this?
I just want to avoid lugging around 2x12's

as long as you pay attention to ohm loads you can wires a speaker cabinet ANY way that you want to. after all its just a box with four speakers in it, the connections and jacks are up to you to decide.
WAIT IM NOT SURE IF IVE ANSWERED YOUR QUESTION..

I am a little confused you say you are tired of lugging around a 2x12 so you want to replace it with two 4x12's?

you also say you want three speakers in total but two four by twelves is 8 speakers.

why not wire one 4x12 for one speaker side clean the other dirt and the other two in stereo for your clean and dirty effects?

hmm did you mean two 4x12's both in stereo on with a clean and a dirty side and one with a left and right effects setup? yeah i think thats what your looking for..

yeah i agree with the above.

two 4x12's, both stereo capabilities.

run wets on the far outside pairs, and dry on the far inside pairs.

will that sould the same though? im not really sure thats any different then sending full wet 100% left full dry 100% right

cool
thanks guys
yeah you could do anything you want

the thing about 2x12's is I'd want them vertical and they are just awkward to put wheels on
and a bunch of 4x12's on wheels is just easier, plus you never have to lift them, you can slide them into a van easy , same thing with a big fridge rack vs a heavy smaller rack not on wheels

anyways
I don't care about stereo effects
mono is cool
but want to avoid a wet cab and a clean cab and a distorted cab
2 4x12's seems like the answer

I would prefer some roadies and a wall of 4x12's :-)

Mesa makes a 2x12 Recto vertical. Also the 4x12's are all mono stereo (R/L) split. The Road King cabs are a little different with closed/half back and different speakers R/L for other options. An awesome WDW rig would be a 4x12 up the middle dry and a 2x12 on both sides running wet, if you are running a true stereo rig.
