Anyone still digging Splawn amps?

My QR is never going anywhere....records so easy, and live I have people tell me it is crushing. It is my tone.

I dig the QR's. The newer models seem to have a bit different voicing than I remember; the older (3 pre tube) version I had was a great amp, my only complaint was volume.

Hey Josh what was different in voicing from your old one and mine? I had a chance to pick an older one up on a straight up trade a month or so ago and I passed on it. I didn't get to play it.

I'll be the party pooper, i'm in the camp that thinks the QR has wierd mids!

Big time Splawn fanboy for cabs, but grew to hate the QR. Just has low voiced mids that drove me crazy.

You are not alone ;)

If splawn opened up a lil more to customer tweaking I know a bunch of guys that would go back. But they don't. I wanted to like nitro ,had 3.but my Kerry King Marshall walked all over it. Splawn had more bottom. But didn't make up for lack of gain stage.

I have Splawn modded Marshall 1987 with KT-88's. Sounds fantastic. I sold it once and bought it back.

Don't see a lot of talk around these parts of Splawn. Who's still diggin' theirs? Especially the Quickrod?

Actually, I'd say they are discussed a fair amount :dunno:

As someone just mentioned, they start off used around $1,000.

Mine has plenty of low end. I'm using a 212 with Small Blocks.

Customer Service is phenomenal - Scott often answers the phone himself and will answer any question (one day he and I spent a fair amount of time talking about bias probes).

They do have their weird mids if you will and if you don't like 'em you don't like 'em.

They are not for everyone.

PS: The Transformers are massive

still love my O'Rourke hot rodded 3 pre quickrod

Fixed!

My O'Rourke modded Nitro is insane! Great amp before but I had to use a boost. I just love the amp now! I also love Splawn cabs and Scott is a righteous dude!

I play my Competition more than my Friedman. Tell you anything? ;)

The Competition has intrigued me. Solo boost, 3 gears, OD 1/2. A lot of options at a nice price.

I have an older pre gear Quick Rod with KT77s, wouldn't trade it for any other amp.

This isn't me, or my amp(as far as I know) but its identical to this one.

That's just it right there. Most people who didn't gel with the amps still respect Scott and would love for him to offer deferent voicings.

If I had a three month waiting list for my product I don't think I would spend my time tinkering with my creation to please every Tom Dick and Harry who wants more gain to crank out da Brootz dude. Stick an OD in front. If it don't cut it move on. It aint the amp for you son. :)

I still use my Streetrod for all smaller gigs and even used @ a few big ones. Sounds great just takes a lil tweaking!!

ive owned a few Splawn heads. Loved my QR. Nitro just wasnt for me. All great products for the $$ and customer service is great!!!

I love my Splawn Quickrod. Its the only amp Ive owned where I do NOT have to constantly tweak to find the tone I want. It always sounds beefy. And it could split concrete If I ever needed it to

I think that's probably a sign that the people that have 'em still have 'em, honestly. I've never played one, but heard plenty of good clips. Seems to me that a lot of the time the most talked-about amps are also the ones that get flipped the most.

Splawn has never been the Amp du jour on the forums. They were back-ordered 10-12 weeks 6 years ago, they are back ordered 10-12 weeks today. How many amp trends have risen and come crashing to the ground in that time?

I loved my 2008 Quick Rod but after Scott told me he had updated the voicing and the saturation level in the 2011 and newer amps, I picked up one of those. I have to say the voicing is a little thicker and the gain is a little more saturated. It is easier to solo on, if that's what you are looking for and it is a little thicker.

Playing through a Splawn can be like looking at a model's photographs before the Photoshop begins. :D

I've never had any problem dialing in any of my Splawn amps to the tone I wanted. The most important thing about Splawn that I've found is to dial it in with your ears, not your eyes and where you "expect" to see the knobs set. If it sounds best to you with the bass on 1, so be it. Don't out-think your ears.
