Don't see a lot of talk around these parts of Splawn. Who's still diggin' theirs? Especially the Quickrod?

I have an older QR, that has the shared EQ and no gears, I still like it a lot. I also have a Splawn 4x12...good stuff and a good price. Maybe their newer stuff is geared more to the brootlz crowd ;)

Hell's to the yeah!! Just did a gig Friday night with my QR and it KILLED, have another on the way, and still have my Nitro. Would love to have a Streed Rod as well--those little amps BURN! I don't think Splawn caters to the Brootz crowd, more to the "modded Marshall" sound, which is currently slightly saturated with Friedman, Cameron, etc. I've been meaning to get to getting clips of various amps up, just haven't had the time.

To answer the primary question, yes--still diggin' both my Splawn amps, can't wait to get my new Quick Rod (looks totally customized to my specifications too!!, and can't wait to plan out my next one!! Great people to do business with as well.

Cheers,

I've been going back and forth between Splawn, Friedman, and Fortin clips trying to compare. I know this doesn't compare to playing them in person, but a new QR costs $1,990, whereas a Fortin or Friedman is $3,000 or more. All three are based on the hot-rodded Marshall sound, but I wonder if the price difference is really worth it. Since becoming a father, I would feel a bit selfish spending $3,000 on an amp, but that's just me.

Would love to hear some clips! My only gripe with the QR (based on clips) is the low end seems a bit lacking. I'm not a brootz guy at all either. Maybe it's just the way they're dialed in.

I have a Plexi reissue that is Splawn modded, has more gain than I can use and kills.

Yup still loving my Competition. Best $1500 I dropped on an amp.

I don't think the QR lacks low end. At least the one's I've played. I know my KT88 Nitro has an insane amount of low end. I generally run the base at 9:00 and the resonance pretty low too - otherwise it can get a little overwhelming with the base. My Mills cabs aren't help with that either.

I've had my Nitro for about a year and a half. Which is an eternity for me. Killer amp at a killer price.

I love my QR! I am still in the honeymoon phase though, I bought it about 1.5 ago. It is one of those amps for me that I never get tired of playing. Every setting on it sounds great! I would eventually like to get a Splawn 4x12 with SB's at some point to match it. Splawn's prices are really hard to beat. They just raised their price on the QR because of the new foot switches. If I got another Splawn at some point it would be the single channel QR/ Pro Stock. I never use the clean channel and its not the high point of the amp either.

Splawn was one of the earlier "modded Marshall" manufacturers and had a pretty strong following with some endorsee's when I bought one back in 2006. I had mine for 6-7 months, the amp just didn't gel with me. They used to have a 3-4 month wait for new ones and used ones went for almost as much as new. I'd buy a used one over new, especially if you are not 100% sure its the right amp. I agree with the other posts, the amp is dynamic enough to cover a lot of ground.

What are you using now? I understand not jelling with an amp. I didn't gel with the Dorado I had. It was very cool and built extremely well, but I much prefer my Granger 2204. The Mako was just too stiff and modern for me, whereas the 2204 was a bit more vintage and dynamic.

love my old 3 pre QR  4yrs strong and no gas. Buying a couple splawn cabs was icing on the cake

There is just something within the dynamics of this amp that I love. It is clear, tight, articulate and punchy as hell. Notes just jump off the fretboard. It most definately has made me a better player no doubt about it

Put this amp in the right hands and it will hang with any amp out there imo

Is that what turned into the QR? Here's my older QR

I love me my Splawns.
My Current Nitro is great from 80's to modern.
My promod had almost too much tight thumping low end with KT88s.
I do a agree with the wrong el34 the quick rod might get a bit lacking lows but with big glass these amps are amazing IMO.
Splawns have there own thing going on did not sound much like my KS Friedman Marshall at all although both are hot rodded Marshall type circuits.

I'll be the party pooper, i'm in the camp that thinks the QR has wierd mids!

Big time Splawn fanboy for cabs, but grew to hate the QR. Just has low voiced mids that drove me crazy.

The Quick Rod is the only amp that has stuck around here. All the rest have come and gone. It just sounds right to me.

Friedman modded Marshall's. I like having old amps that sound good at any volume and don't require any pedals to shape tone. I know that's not for everyone but it works for me.

I've had my QR for 3+ years. Used ones can be had for $1100-$1200. Good bang for the buck.

I dig the QR's. The newer models seem to have a bit different voicing than I remember; the older (3 pre tube) version I had was a great amp, my only complaint was volume.
