Computer Optimized Porting and Tuning: We enlist the aid of computer modeling to achieve optimal performance from our chosen drivers. Ports are tuned for smooth extended low end response. Our guitar cabinets are tuned for robust mid-bass response.

that. that is something ive been looking for a cabinet maker to do for years. i bet those 2x12 cabinets scream

I'll admit, I'm curious, there's a guy somewhat local to me that has a 4x10 bass cab for sale, thats how I found out about them, just not sure how good they are. but I'm intrigued.

30x30x14

thats their dimensions.

the only thing that kwirks me is that they are port tuned to eminence speakers which i have never played and dont really care for at the moment.

wonder if changing the speakers mess with the tuning drastically :dunno:

im surprised they havent been mentioned. they dont seem too bad - 103lbs loaded which is about the same as my 5150 straight cabinet. so either their internal bracing is extremely well designed and using a custom molding mix for joints or they are doing a corner bracing like what mills accoustics uses with brackets. im not sure what to think.

but IF it is port tuned to the speakers at the dimensions 30x30x14 and not necessarily to the specs of the speakers, those could probably be the best sounding and resonate cabinets to exist in my opinion. im positive that port tuning makes a HUGE difference for the better.

another thing that i think other cabinet companies dont take into consideration is exactly what they did - champfering and filleting of sharp corners.

damn mike, now you got me adding cabinets to my list to try

I'm thinking about calling the dude up and asking if I can try it out, at least with the bass cab I can a/b it with my Mesa cab..... (once it gets here)

have nothing to lose to give it a try. if you do decide to go try it, ill be looking forward to your opinion :)

I'll see if I can get ahold of him once my Mesa arrives, hopefully it wont be sold by then.

any Illinois members around? they're located in Springfield, someone go check 'em out and report back ;)

if you get a chance, take a drill and grab a gut-shot picture of inside the cabinet. $1,000 for a cabinet, im curious as to how well its actually made

yeah, me too.....I may email them and ask if they'll send me some interior pics ;)

Yeh Porting has worked for years for p.a., bass speakers ect...
I never really understood why some one would get rid of a speaker cabinet that they might like but has to much bottom end when they could could just experiment with porting to decrease the low frequencies..
Or better yet an adjustable port design with a certain starter size port opening and include caps with different size holes in the caps that would allow the user to customize the frequencies to their liking..
Just an idea..

One of my 4 x12's has Eminence speakers, it really isn't that bad compared to my V30 4x12 they actually sound good together...
I know I wouldn't use it in a studio, but live playing it doesn't bother me..

I love my eminence speakers. they have a flavor for everyone.

After a few direct comparisons Ill never go back to celestion now that they are made in china out of substandard steels.

these cabs look cool, i like the lid.

Great...............another pixiedust cab.

Only cabs left for me is an 2x12 for my old ass for the weekly jams and I really want to try the Scumback Marshall 69 spec with vintage blackbacks 55hz

It is pretty much common knowledge in the metals industry that steels made in China have a high impurity content and low Carbon rendering them substandard to the rest of the world. as for a direct link, I'll look around later.

Rig talk member "EXP custom":
After 2003 they are all made in China, Mesa has Celestion finish their V30 frames in the UK but its still Chinese sheet metal since the stamping facilities went to China. Once a company moves to China the steel is poor quality just look at our Bay Bridge.

Low carbon content is why the Chinese steel sucks, in the USA and the UK most steel is around 30% carbon content in sheetmetal applications. Chinese steel is 6% Carbon content tops, most is just food grade or medical grade 3% Carbon sheetmetal.

Here's a quote from Celestion rep and forumite Rick Skillman:

It's amazing that this subject still comes up weekly. First, the "Chinese" Celestion's are not "farmed out", but instead made at our parent companies facility near Hong Kong. Better yet they are made on the same machines which shipped from our original factory. Therefore the debate on tonal difference is somewhat mute though amusing. Virtually every builder (who uses them) is perfectly happy with them as are their customers. Most will tell you that the quality is better now than when built at the old factory. Secondly, the factory is now in Ipswich and has been for awhile. That factory manufacturers the Heritage G12M & H, Blues, Golds, Century's (not Century Vintage though). Many people love them, but there are those who prefer the current Chinese model.....for instance Fred and Divided By 13 (who is no slouch when it comes to tone), and a few others. The difference with the standard G12M and Heritage 12M's is that the Heritage model is built to the original spec as much as possible. Many make speakers, so whether it's ours or Jim's Scumback, the most important thing is to plug in, have fun, and just play!

Cheers,
Rick
