anyone tried the BKP Warpigs?

Thinking about replacing the Arcane Powerdozer in my Jackson Pro Series DK2 Dinky (alder body / maple neck / ebony fretboard) with the alnico version of these (though open to ceramic if the consensus is they're better).

Mostly using it in Drop C & D Standard for Zakk Wylde / Killswitch Engage type stuff (both of which use EMGs) into a GZA Hellion / Monomyth UG.

I found it to be much less of an output monster than their description suggests. It's a perfectly decent pickup--darkish and very clear--but I greatly prefer the Anderson H3+ for that kind of tone.

It's a good pickup. I found it dark, too, and thick, but nothing I couldn't dial out with the amp. I usually ran mine in parallel switching to series for leads. If I was going to get another one, I'd go for the ceramic to give it a little more bite and a little less mid. I replaced it with a BKP A-Bomb and I base my comparison of A5 to ceramic on that; I have a C-Bomb in another guitar. It's nothing like an EMG, though.

I’ve used Warpigs in a few guitars that were overly bright sounding to darken it up a little. They are not extremely dark, but they are heavy on the lows but still clear. Soloing sounds great, no shrill tones and the highs can have balls if that makes sense.

I currently have an A5 Warping in a Caparison Horus that was really bright and a set in a PRS 594 that although a mahogany body and neck, it was really shrill sounding. It works well with both.

What do you think about the Powerdozer? I was thinking to put in the bridge of a Les Paul Custom then decided to pass, but still curious

It's a really cool pickup, but the A8s are different sounding than A5s so adjust your expectations that it's always going to sound different than what you usually find on a record somewhere.

Its got less presence going on, but still a bright pickup for sure. Output seems sufficiently high compared to anything else high output.

Maybe a little thin when soloing is probably my only complaint. I'd love to find a way to have A8s on the bottom three strings and an A5 on the top three; never seen a manufacturer do that though.

I'm debating just keeping it until I eventually buy another guitar for it but ultimately haven't decided yet. Wound up buying a BKP Miracle Man but still need to put it in.

Until now my favourite pickups for a LPC are the early TTops. Tried Arcane XIII but it was a bit too smooth for my taste. I think I understand what you mean by less presence. The compression and touch sensitivity was great though, nothing like 498T which I do not get along with. I will try Rebel Yell next, looking forward to remove that 498T out of the equation. It will be my first experience with a Bare Knuckle pickup. I might give a chance to Powerdozer if it’s brighter than XIII in the future

Did you try Bulldozer? It might be a better alternative with A5.

Nah, it's hard to get hands on Arcanes. I've emailed that dude so many times and ultimately found the Powerdozer on Reverb.

Not affiliated and haven't tried these myself. Not A8 + A5, but A5 on the E-A, A4 on the D-G, and A2 on the B-E.

Yeah, I used to have a tele pickup that had A2s on the GBE strings and A5s on the EAD strings. Really helped preventing it from getting icepick-y.

But guess this proves it's doable for a humbucker too. Maybe I can find a custom winder somewhere and give it a try.

True, it took 3 months for my order to arrive. I will buy from Reverb instead of his website. He is not very responsive to the emails as well.

Sounds promising. Lot's of good pickups out there. The design makes sense, I would expect them to be more popular
