Anyone tried the Jackson J80 pickup?

I was reading up on the pickups and electronics I gutted from my RR1 V and turns out the bridge pup was a J80. I googled it and people say it say its a rockin good pickup! Unfortunately the RR1 had active electrionics which I think was basically a preamp. Regardless it always sounded horrible like that.

Anyone tried one with normal passive electronics?

Ive used one. Pretty tight articulate pickup. If you want to get rid of it let me know.

the charvel 750xl (all mahog) came with them in the neck and bridge. i have a 750xl with j80's and a 750xl with an emg 81-85 combo. the j80 doesn't seem as hot as the 81, but i like the combo better. the j80 has plenty of bite in the bridge and is a very smooth pickup for the neck.

the USA Made J-90C is one of the coolest pickups in existence.

Well, now I have a SD Distortion, SD JB, SD Jazz, Dimarzio Tone Zone, and 2 Jackson J80's

Guess, what though, I have never heard this J80 proper style. My guitar had a 50K Ohm volume pot and it sounded like shit. I'm not sure of the theory of the preamp wiring it had but it never sounded good. Now I will have to try this J80 Proper style.

I had a J-50 pickup set, 1 Hum 2 Singles. It got the job done, sounded great, better than most stock pickups by other companies. I think other stuff still sounds better though like duncans or dimarzios

Not c though just j80. It is one of the rarer of the jackson pickups.

The "C" ceramic Jackson pickups are generally regarded more highly.

You could always swap the magnet to make it a J80C, which is another ripping pickup BTW.
