Anyone try the Love Pedal Provalve?

The big question: What are you intending to use it for? Into what amp, module?

Looks like that ProValve would be great as a standalone distortion device, but judging by the demo, *might* be a little too saturated for a boost. That being said, it sounds very good.

The ability to toggle between two different gain settings is a plus. For me, though, if I were to have a backup distortion pedal to bring to a gig and plug into, lets say, a Fender Twin, I'd want the ability to toggle between two gain settings, with two seperate volumes too. to have my solos jump out in the mix (because most likely the soundman will be asleep at the wheel... )

That BB is hard to beat for a boost. It has a clarity to it that makes it jive well, even with high gain modules.

Ya know what else is very amp like? Your amp.

I wouldnt bother using a pedal like that in any situation other than as a standalone dirt box in front of a clean amp if I didnt have my normal setup.

I see where you're coming from, Val. But lets say you're playing some covers in a band, and you're using a Mod50, with a setup like a T/D, with an SL2.

Lets say you're rocking a strat, and you want to do an SRV cover. T is set clean, deluxe is set to grind, but your SL2 is set for high gain. You do most of the song on the D side, but want to kick it up just a touch for a solo. In that case, the BB shines. Because switching over to the SL2 would be too drastic.

Don't get me wrong - I'll take a good tube amp tone over a pedal anyday. But I think that a good overdrive into a slightly crunchy fendery or marshall sounding amp definitely can be considered a legitimately good, useful tone in it's own right.

I don't think Val is talking about the BB man. I think he's talking about the Provalve, being very "amp like."

BTW, I love my BB . It's probably my favorite pedal I have right now! So damn cool.

Oh absolutely. Eric is right, I was talking about the Love Pedal, not the BB. The BB is absolutely perfect for exactly what you just described.

Easy misinterpretation as he quoted your statement about the BB above the comment, I took it the same way.


Any way, I tried the Pro Valve and I always hate making a negative statement about any gear, becasue what I don't care for you might love. I found it to be a very cool, beautiful design with some really good tones in it. In the right application it could be great. I found it to impart a bit too much specific amp character (FENDER) on top of my Bassman module to be of any help. It also sounded very bright to me and the worst thing I didn't like about it was that it was very hrad to use in a subtle way. Let's say you have channel B of the T/D module going and you want to step on the pedal and engage initial boost by turning on th pedal. It's REALLY loud when you step on it so it dosen't really cooperate with your base tone, very hrad to dial down, talking volume @ 8 or 9 o'clock with an amp at stage volume. Now kicking in channel two of the Provalve is easy to blend in with the first channel once it's already on. I also thought the second mode on the Provalve wasn't different enough, it barely has more gain than channel 1 if any. Again this is not a knock on the pedal it just was not gonna play nice with my set up.

If I were going for a two channel pedal I would go straight to the Xotic BB Plus. We know the BB rocks and dual channels with added mids control ... etc. Well that's gotta be a winner if you ask me.
