Looking for opinions on this. Will mostly be for quiet jamming through my Bluetooth speaker. Might be fun through the Mark VII return as well.

yes. fun!
computer interace/editing. not fun.
But are the built in presets decent enough not to need deep editing? Again just for fucking around with. Just want to make sure it sounds good out of the box as it's been out a while and not a lot out there.

If you have a Tonex pedal, you could get away with just some minor tone control tweaks on the presets. Unfortunately, the PC interface software kinda sucks.

there were a handful of useable fender, dumble, and boutique rock amp presets that worked well with onboard/no computer needed tweaking. i bought it primarily for the purchasable VH brown sound add on packs and those didn’t disappoint.
but to get the most out of the thing you have to computer dive which suck but gives you better access to more options (can see all controls, cabs, delay and reverb deeper editing)

after plugging headphones straight into it for a while to learn how to use it, i’ve been digging using it as a pedal in front of my amp much more.

pros: small affordable and the good amp models feel legit

cons: computer menu navigation, pedal’s reverb, delay, and comp/gate are about as satisfying as hugging an overweight scarecrow with fishnets

I really dont mind the software, but people have to remember that ToneX IS a software product first, and a pedal second. This is not a typical pedal where everything is on the pedal and the computer editor just edits it. The ToneX ecosystem is built around the plugin and software library, and the pedal is just a player for what is produced in the software.
