Is it too bright to use in the bridge of an ash body/maple neck superstrat? Should I swap the ceramic magnet for an A5 before I install it?

should be fine!

had one in Alder body, maple neck with rosewood board, and was the best feeling pickup/guitar combo i've had. actually a little darker than my JB guitars.

Sounded smoother than a JB to my ears as well.... not sure where it got the reputation as being a bright and harsh pickup to be blatantly honest.

The DD has an oversize ceramic magnet, so a standard A5 will not slip right in.

Besides, the DD probably sounds fatter and tighter stock with the ceramic.

It's not remotely bright or harsh...should be perfect for the guitar that you're putting it in. In my experience, the older ones from the 80's are a bit warmer and fuller sounding than their newer counterparts, but the new ones still sound great. I'd like to think that its the aging that makes the difference, but I believe there's more to it than that based on my similar experience with the JB. I know my old JBs never sounded like the new ones, even when they were new.

Used to use them a long time ago. They are a bit too fuzzy sounding and don't clean up enough with the vole control for me. Ended up liking the Custom better.

My alder/maple ss was on the bright side with the duncan distortion but it had a suprisingly huge lowend also

I have a GMW strathead with an Alder body and Maple neck. I had an 80's DD put in and it kills. Not brite at all.

Thanks guys!!! I'm not used to using ceramic mag pups, but I think I'll give the DD a shot

Bastard!

It's not an answer to your question, but I've used many pickups in Strats and I've never liked one as much as my Suhr Aldrich.
