Anyone using a Attenuator with good results w/Friedman amps?

i find my jj master volume to be so good that i dont use it.

Agree. I've tried by Aracom with my JJ. There is no need for attenuation. The master sounds great.

Dave remarked on another forum that they have a power station in their shop and he is very impressed with it...

It seems like most people lean toward an attenuator not being needed but I can't leave well enough alone and ordered a Power Station. It should ship by the end of next week. I and my JJ were definitely happier the couple times I've been able to open it up more (which still was about 2 on the master and 4-5 on the gain channel volume; I suffer from the same two kid/two job syndrome as Adambomb), but I know the speakers themselves are going to sound better when they're working harder too. I actually feel a little guilty that the end result will be coming from the Fryette power amp and not the JJ's own, but I'm going to give the Power Station a shot and see how it sounds. I like the idea of the extra EQ stuff on the PS too.

What you hear when you open it up is most likely the speakers reaching a volume where they can function as intended. Guitar amp speakers are not designed for low volume. Get a Torpedo CAB and a good set of headphones. Use the Power Station as your load. Then you can use headphones and play silent while hearing what it would sound like at cranked volume.

I'm going to eat my words here...

After playing the JJ for the past month or so without using my Aracom, I switched back to using the Aracom to see if I could hear a difference.

Well... There is definitely more sustain at lower gain settings when the master is above 5 (I've been running it at 6) and I use the attenuator to control the volume. With the Aracom I notice no loss in tone only a gain in sustain. For the BE mode the difference was very apparent. So, if you plan to use BE mode, I would recommend an attenuator to get the most sustain out of the amp.

I've just started using the Sat switch at home and love it. Lots of sustain and clean rippin gain. Don't know why people complain about the volume drop or have an extra volume mod in that mode cause you can just crank the master to 4-5 and it sounds great for lower volume playing. I mainly play the BE in a band, just started a new original band project.

Power station is a great choice. I use it to attenuate several 100 watters, all sound great thru it. Use it to crank the volume of my 64 deluxe reverb, friggin amazing. Used it to crank one of those little HotTone Heart Attack Nano amp things that they say can push a 4x12 cab by itself (yeah, barely). The PS turned this little guy into Dimebag from hell. I sometimes will hide the PS when doing this and make people think that my roaring hyper distorted loudness is coming from this very tiny Altoids sized box on top of my cab. The PS is awesome with my SL-68 using the PS for its effects loop. Simply fantastic. And did I mention how cool the ability to EQ any awesome amp you run through it with a little more treb or low end if you wish? I think I have covered all I've used it for so far. There are still many cool ways to use this thing that I haven't tried yet. Best 600$ I've ever spent.

Power Station is a solid choice. There's also the Suhr reactive load. If you just want to record at home, the Torpedo Reload is a really good option as well.

Fryette is my favorite at 599.00 it's hard to beat.

Dave. why over the Rivera Rockcrusher? curious. it works well. i have a faustine phantom and the rock crusher just seems better. your thoughts please?

I like using an attenuator with my Friedman or any of my amps with master volume because I believe there's a difference in tone between 1 through 5. When recording I like the power amp section to work a bit harder. At higher volumes the amp gets a bit darker. I lower the gain to 3 and sometimes crank the amp up to 6 or 7. But I also use the amp without an attenuator if I want a brighter or different tone. I'm currently using the Aracom Dual Rox"DRX" which I really like.

I'm looking at the Fryette power station because I'm planning to get the Ampete and I have to see how I can switch between my master volume amps and my non master volume Plexi amps which I can't use without an attenuator. If anyone has any information if it's safe to use an attenuator between the speaker out of the Ampete and the cabinet or using individual attenuators between the amp's speaker out into the Ampete's amp outs without any issues. I just want all the amps to be at equal volume when switching between them. Another option I have is using the Aracom's foot switching feature were you can have 2 different volume levels and program it with my Voodoo Labs channel switching to compensate for the volume difference between my master volume amps and my non master volume Plexis when switching between amps.
