Well, have a Friedman IR-J and Fryette PS-2a incoming

I finally decided on a Friedman IR-J and Fryette PS-2A snd hoping I dig it to have a fairly reliable, more compact rig that is tube.

I've really been struggling to decide on something because I get a little paranoid about tube amps for gigs but I have a backup if needed. I originally was going to get a Fractal AM4. I love Fractal and had an Axe-Fx II back in the day but I am set with my Keeley pedals and when I had the Axe-Fx II, I always just used a Friedman model.

I also think this will be good having the power amp to use with my Synergy modules if I want to do that. As a member of this forum, i'm sure this isn't an end all, be all situation but hoping I dig it, lol.

I bought an IR-X a while back, mainly for a backup rig. I did some jamming & recording when I first got it, and liked it pretty well.

The ps2a has been on my “need to purchase” list for a while. I’ve got a few uses for one.

I have considered one many times, but I already got so much crap, lol.

I generally use a reactive loadbox into a solid state power amp to do the same thing, or sometimes a rack tube power amp.

I had an IR-X and later a IR-D but didn't have a tube amp at the time so was trying different things. I feel like this will be good and raw.

Watched Big Hairy Guitars VHT/Fryette's power amp shootout, and have no issues using the Powerstation over a full size VHT poweramp. I think that the IR-J and the PS-2 will be a good match.

I have the FM3 and a Headrush Pedalboard and with the PS-2A, I actually prefer the Headrush. The PS-2A is the great equalizer.

I had an IR-J for a while and while it was cool, it didn't have enough gain for me. It sounded good with a boost though.

Odd - as Friedmans normally have a ton of gain. I wonder if it was like the few products I have tried where it doesn't seem to sit/push the sound where I want it to. Adding gain just seemed to add more background noise but the core of the note was always kind of masked or hidden. I have not gotten to try one of their big tube amps but have gotten to play some of their pedals and a little mini head ran through a tube output.

I just got the IR-J at the end of May. I LOVE it! I mostly use it for recording direct into my DAW, but my friend sold me a 1x12 loaded with a Scumback M75 for a price too good to refuse and I'm planning on powering it with the Wampler Pedalhead when it releases later this year.

Oh man I didn’t even think about the Syn-2. I'm sure that will be in my wheelhouse cone tax season, lol.

I almost got the Syn-2 from day 1 but felt like the 20IR was better for me at the time.

I got the IR-J and sounds great but need to mess around with it a bit more. It has a "stringy" tone to it. I need to mess around with the EQ more and other settings. Has a SRV twang to it if that makes sense. It does sound good though.

The Plexi channel sounds great and really captures ACDC, etc. I have messed with the EQ and better now. I don't have the Fryette yet so just listenening thru my Synergy 20IR loop.

I've got the JEL20 and have dialed in that tone before so I know what you are talking about. It also has a really fat tone.. it really has a lot of tones in it. One of the best things about my JEL20 is how it feels when I play it... and that it also has a great Plexi channel. It's so versatile.

I've got the OG Pedalboard and the way I dial it in, it has always beat my Fractal and Helix with monitors, FRFR or power amp into guitar speakers. The tone is just more raw and tube-like.

I always find Fractal has more of a smoother, recorded tone. I find captures like NAM and ToneX to be more like actual amps in the room.
